  1. They would NEVER let a show have a one-minute title sequence now!
  2. I'm in the middle of this one too! Some funny bits in it -- I laughed at the though of black-market halvah. Mine has this cover: That last is the cover I had, though with mine the writing at the top was not encased in a red stripe. Much difference from the first edition?
  3. As far as that goes, if the bill of rights was put to a vote, much of it probably wouldn't pass.
  4. BTW, two or three nights ago a channel was having a Twilight Zone marathon thanks to which I finally managed to catch the episode that was directed by Jacques Tourneur. The one where an old woman kept getting mysterious calls; well, the story was typically lame, but the direction was good. Someone (was it Kalo?) once said that Tourneur always seemed to create worlds that you could step right into and inhabit, and that was true here as well.
  5. Thanks for that post; I couldn't remember when it started getting good and was afraid to risk it; I'll start with 3. Perfect place to start. (Fourth season may be even better, but every season after that is a further step down. Don't miss the episode with Jean Simmons.)
  6. No, this one really did happen, i saw the story in a couple of legit(tabloid though) newspapers but it sure sounds like an Onion headline. Well, that's what I meant, really.
  7. I'm pretty much with you on this, Jim, although I found the baseball miniseries very hard to get through even on first viewing. Way too long, overindulgent, and sentimental. I mean, hey, I expected those things, but jeeze....enough's enough.
  8. Great show, thanks for the heads up on the new season. I didn't know it was due to start. Like your Third Man avatar. Thanks. The 4th season is supposed to start on July 17th if I recall correctly.
  9. F.M. Busby Busby Birdwell Busby Berkeley
  10. I haven't read all of the crime/mystery novels of the 20th century, so I can't say for sure, but "The Maltese Falcon," and "The Daughter of Time" both sound like good choices to me.
  11. I'm sort of half-tempted to read the full, expanded version (from 1991), which is 60,000 words longer. However, I suspect the editors did Heinlein a huge favor. That's usually the case, but in this case, I think the expanded version is much better. I read it when it came out in '91, and thought the additions made the novel flow a lot better, and cleared up some dangling questions. I read the "expanded" (unedited) versions of "The Puppet Masters" and "Red Planet" and in both cases found some of the "extra" material intriguing, but overall preferred the shorter, edited versions. I've also heard that the shorter, originally published version of SIASL is now out of print and the only version you can now buy is the expanded one. If this is true, it strikes me as a little odd, to say the least. Nice cover. Never seen that particular edition.
  12. Just re-watched season 3 of Breaking Bad on disc in anticipation of season 4 starting soon. I love this show.
  13. Hope you feel much better soon.
  14. Both. Or neither. Can't decide.
  15. I've only heard it used up til now as "pettifogging details"---it is a cool word, has a Dickensian ring to my ear.
  16. You saw that for $4.99 and passed on it initially??? Perhaps not one of my all-time favorites, but pretty good all the same. Glad it was still there when you went back. Sweet deal.
  17. Belated Happy Birthday, Larry, and many happy returns of the day.
  18. Agreed, quite a good series. The "Alpha" series of collections, also edited by Silverberg, was also quite good, especially the first five.
