Speaking of Morello, he has a superb drum solo on "Calcutta Blues," the last track on Jazz Impressions of Eurasia; pretty slow and laid back, too, compared to most.

x2. highly recommended. nicely done, low-key, deliberately paced and very baseball oriented. the family/personal ambition angle is there, but rightly everything is suffused with baseball. Pitt is having a great year with this and Tree Of Life. good on him. Also liked Moneyball. I never thought I'd see Jonah Hill underplay, but there it is. The daughter was perhaps a shade too cutesy, but not a deal breaker by any means.

...And I'm missing it right now.

Turns out he'll round the corner on 93 this coming January. I'd say his 60 Minutes commentaries were basically a retirement hobby for the last 15 years or more.

I hate to say it, but it's about time. His comments were always easy to make fun of, but were at least intentionally funny as well much of the time. More recently they've been cut down to about 30 seconds and half the time they don't even seem to make much sense.

I find it hard to get around that loud 80's-type music though.

What we REALLY need is some way to re-invent simultainaity.

I hate remakes of favorites. I feel much the same way. If a certain film was particularly satisfying to me, then the very idea of a remake nauseates me. I'm also looking forward to "Ides of March," Jazzbo. Gosling suddenly seems to be ubiquitous.

Mine too, although it's admittedly been a long time since I read it. Anderson did seem to have a preference for a medieval social setup.
