  1. Yikes. Fascinating and nightmarish at the same time.
  2. I don't know...causes me to become a bit nauseated, actually.
  3. Good one. That bugs me too.
  4. Yep. Seems like just, well, not yesterday, but three or four years ago. Nine? Woah.
  5. Hope you had a very happy birthday, Larry.
  6. I just went to one of his shows at the local Jewish Community Center last weekend. They're always good and this one was no exception. His spoken intros are nice, too.
  7. There are some books in which his sadism gets the upper hand. This is one of them.
  8. The attribution to Monk is incorrect. No definitive answer, but there's a fair amount of citations for Martin Mull, but it could be as early as Clara Schumann. I didn't know that there was any controversy about this! I thought that it was Charles Mingus who said, "Writing about music is like dancing about architecture." I've seen it attributed to Elvis Costello as well.
  9. I also avoided the opening weekend crush, but I will be seeing it sooner or later.
  10. I wouldn't dream of messing with a cat.
  11. 20 months??? What the hell?
  12. It probably is brain-trauma related.
  13. So far every episode seems to be a completely different ride than all the others. But perhaps I'm just not used to seeing brand NEW episodes. I agree, it's a very good season so far. And since dropping acid Roger is very much on his game with the one-liners again.
  14. And the whole bit with the plumbing!
  15. Anyone catch "Mad Men" last night? Excellent episode! I love that Don hates the 'burbs now. Who'd have thought that Ken would start writing science fiction stories? And the fight was great. I figured Lane would win, despite the difference in ages. With a father like his, he'd have to have learned how to take a few punches.
  16. Yes, Mike Wallace always seemed younger than his calender age, which lulled some of us (certainly me) into a false sense of security. I never thought of the guy passing away, just kind assumed he'd always be with us. A sobering and saddening piece of news, though at least he had an amazing run. RIP
  17. Off and on. Seems like for years he was one of those SF authors that I was SUPPOSED to like more than I actually did. I've enjoyed a few of his stories, others not so much, read The Dying Earth when I was a teen and thought it was...okay, but somehow it didn't knock my socks off. Every time I've picked up one of his novels since then I would put it down part way through and never seem to get back to it. Maybe my problem is that his SF has a distinct fantasy flavor. Oh, now that I think of it, I also read Big Planet way back when, and liked it, but never felt like reading it again.
  18. It's about time; I so hated their pennies.
  19. I agree with all of that. Also watched The Killing 2 hour episode last night. I liked it well enough that I'm going to hang in there with the show. I've watched a few episodes of The Killing (American) but I missed even more, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with the 2-hour season premiere. Well, I ended up watching the thing and getting really wrapped up in it. Maybe I'll keep watching. There's something kind of hypnotic about that show. In last night's Mad Men, I was impressed all over again with how decent and NORMAL Henry Francis is. Except when it comes to Don; he loathes Don. I suppose that's "normal" too, certainly understandable, but after being so kind and generous with everyone else his treatment of Don as almost a pariah stands in stark contrast. But that very human reaction was perhaps put there so Henry didn't come off as some sort of saint. I liked the direction of the episode.
  20. Yes, but poor nutrition of our prehistoric ancestors was probably due mainly to not ENOUGH food, rather than the wrong kinds. Malnutrition, in other words.
  21. I grew up in the 60's, so yes, I can read an analog clock face. (We used to call them "dial clocks" or "clocks-with-hands.")
  22. I've been looking forward to self-driving cars (true "auto"-mobiles) all my life.
  23. Well, caught the season 5 premiere of Mad Men. Thought it was quite good.
  24. I don't think of TV characters as life or role models.
