  1. He was not a number! He was a FREE MAN!!!
  2. Essential, no. Special...definitely.
  3. Good choices! If you've never heard it before you may be surprised by how special the Byrd/Watkins is. And "Stylings" is one of my 3 or 4 favorite Silvers.
  4. Jesus, what a fucking psycho.
  5. I loves me some Dick. (Wait, that didn't come out quite right...) Heh.
  6. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  7. Chicken soup. Chinese tea with honey. Plenty of sleep.
  8. I like that they've narrowed it down to either a UFO or a flying cow.
  9. I miss Africa Brass. Happy B-day!

That is a good album. Too bad they couldn't have been bothered to put a decent cover on it.
  11. Yes! I seem to recall that. But after a small number of posts he never posted again.
  12. Yes to that.
  13. What about the trumpet heroes?
  14. It's clearly time for The Onion to have their own cable channel.
  15. I've been waiting for this for the last few years. It's really amazing that Stacey's has hung on so long, but this is still sad. I still prefer browsing in a good bookstore to browsing online, but it's getting harder to do as more stores close.
  16. I didn't like it. What a surprise.
  17. Never been a big fan. Don't know why. Maybe it's me.
  18. I meant to listen to this today but only caught a tiny bit of it. Will have to listen online sometime.
  19. "Lifestyle brand"? Ugh.
  20. Just finished watching Season 4 of The Office on DVD. Some people like to dump on the fourth season, but I liked it a lot. Yes, there were fewer episodes, but that was thanks to the writer's strike.
  21. Happy Birthday Nate!
  22. Good one, Artie.
  23. To me, CCR was and is a prime example of one of those bands that's "better than you think." To be specific, "despite being played to death on the radio they were actually remarkably good, even great." One of those. In order to recognize their worth, I had to try to listen to them with (at least partially) fresh ears. Discount all the times I've heard them on radios and at parties, discount the phony/hokey sounding lead vocals, and just zero in on the tight song structures, economical guitar solos, the rock'n'roll grooves and catchy melodies. Once you manage to do that though, you realized that they churned out a hell of a lot of good songs, no way around it. And trying to mentally step back and listen to anything with fresh ears is a very useful exercise.
