  1. There's an album of the Ellington Orchestra playing jazz versions of the Nutcracker Suite. I believe it can now be found on the "Three Suites" CD.
  2. Actually, we were in the Fog City Diner recently and heard a classic Blue Note hardbop track. I couldn't place exactly what it was, but it was very familiar. I said, "Hey, I've got this." My wife replied, "I know. I've heard you play it." Considering the venue it wasn't too surprising though.
  3. Now that last one is pretty startling.
  4. I should get that.
  5. ...If you're bird dies and you say that it's joined the choir invisible.
  6. "It's Such A Beautiful Day"
  7. Yeah, I could have sworn that started with "867-"
  8. Favorite Mosaic? For me it's up there, definitely, but I like the Shorter/Morgan Vee-Jay even more.
  9. Let's hope you don't read any dead writers.
  10. I've read both those Naremore books. He's a solid writer; the title of the Welles book, by the way, was foisted on him by the publisher.
  11. Imagine if you only listened to 18th and 19th century classical music. You wouldn't care, because they'd all be dead. Eventually ALL musicians and composers will be dead, same as everybody else.
  12. Don't forget some Hank! And Davis Cup if you've got it.
  13. I could've sworn that all the Circuit City branches around here closed years ago. I had the impression that the whole chain died around '03 or '04.
  14. I think I can make a similar claim. Right now: The Daily Show!
  15. I wouldn't exactly call it "electronic" but it's certainly on of my favorite pieces of avant garde classical. Reich's "Six Marimbas" is nice too.
  16. And then there are the people who only released ONE Blue Note album, and that a gem. J. R. Monterose, with his eponymous album, comes to mind, and Walter Davis Jr. with Davis Cup---and is the wonderful Flight To Jordan Duke Jordan's only Blue Note? I think so.
  17. Very sunny today. Temp in the low-to-mid-60's.
  18. Just watched the end of I Remember Mama on TCM.
  19. Yeah, Let Me Tell You 'Bout It really turned me on to him, though I can't remember exactly when I got it. Shortly after it came out, I guess. With only two BN albums it seems churlish not to reissue them both.
  20. My best wishes to both of you, and anyone else out there who's suffering similar problems.
  21. Mistreatment of vegetables. So very wrong.
  22. Wow. A sax costs about as much as a low-midrange car used to, not so long ago.
