  1. Tonight: going to watch The Rachel Maddow Show. If she's still out sick there's going to be BIG trouble!
  2. Me too. Good for her. It's actually pretty amazing that she got, what, something like FIVE Oscar noms before this win, and she's only in her early thirties. I was also happy about the only moment of real surprise in the telecast, when Sean Penn won for Best Actor instead of Mickey Rourke. Everyone (including me) thought Rourke would win out of sentimentality, but Penn's performance was more remarkable. Yes, he can be a boorish pain in the ass in real life, but Penn's a talented actor, there's no getting around it.
  3. Hey, I won! (Something or other.)
  4. I have yet to see this quarter.
  5. And remember, "Fogg" rhymes with "dog."
  6. Swinging Swede's first post didn't appear on my computer!
  7. The soundtrack to I Want To Live---I'm sure it's better than the movie.
  8. Reminds me of a certain poster from way back...nice guy...what was his handle again? Don't tell me, it'll come to me sooner or later...
  9. "Fussy"? No. One of the best alto players in all of jazz? Yes.
  10. He DID already have that tendency, though. She just fanned the flames.

It went beyond trash into the sublime.
  12. I loves me some Okeh.
  13. Same here. And apparently it's been issued and reissued on CD already.
  14. Sounds very good.
  15. My favorite of the "classic" stride pianists has got to be Fats Waller. He knocks my socks off.
  16. Yeah, there have been a few tornadoes in Northern California in recent years. So now it's "expect the unexpected."
  17. Personally, I don't think so.
  18. Yes, it is nice. But then, it's an English list. If it were American, I'm pretty sure Wodehouse wouldn't appear at all.
  19. Huge hail is one thing they don't have to worry about in New England...yet. I remember growing up once seeing pea-sized hail and being utterly astonished. Never saw it again.
  20. I'd put The Code of the Woosters at the top. But then I'd also include Jeeves (Joy) In the Morning and three or four more Wodehouses, including at least one Blandings novel.
  21. I'd like to read that myself.
  22. Try the one where Burns runs for Governor. Or the one where Bart pays $100 for a comic book. Classics!
  23. I'm living one.
  24. I'd say the "theme" (music) is the same...it's the opening sequence (visuals) that have been changed a bit.
