  1. This session is part of the triad of great Green/Young/Elvin Jones recordings in a short period of time between 1964 and 1965. The first was "Talkin About," then "Street of Dreams," and the "I Want to Hold your Hand;" and of the three, this is my favorite. The other two cds are great too, especially "I Want to HOld your Hand," but "Street of Dreams" is special to me. The music is soft but there is an undercurent of intensity that flows throughout the tracks. Young and Green and Elvin are just magic together. Bobby Hutcherson is on the date but he doesn't have as much solo space as the leader. The opening track, "I Wish You Love" is beautiful. Green has a lengthy and probing solo. "Lazy Afternoon" has this cool groove set by Larry Young. Beautiful. Nice use of space by Grant. "Street of Dreams" is probably the "loudest" of the tracks. Green goes a bit far with his one-note playing, but Elvin keeps the beat going. This cd is such a wonderful example of the greatness of Elvin Jones on ballad pieces. Young's solo on this track is great. "Somewhere in the Night" is another magical track. Again I hear that beautiful Elvin Jones beat. Everyone shines on this one. This cd is a mellow masterpiece and a good compliment to all the rollicking post bop dates put out around the same time. I think there's only a little above 30 minutes of recording here which is a real bummer. Blue Note could have added a few more tracks. I'll never tire of this one. I don't know what heaven might look like, but I've got an idea about what it might sound like! And I'll remember this one even after I'm dead.
  2. Ebay is crazy. A copy of Mobley, "Another Workout" sold for $41.00 yesterday. I am not one who believes that a cd should trade at those heights NO MATTER what it is! The maximum I'll pay for anything is $25, and I bet this figure is higher than many others will pay for cds. CDs can be reissued at any time and there's no reason to pay so much for anything. I am looking forward to receiving theWashington session and will make a few comments when I hear it.
  3. Any idea of which 4 were added and which were deleted? I just watched the two VHS versions yesterday for the umpteenth time.
  4. I guess I paid $26+ including shipping. Is that a good price? I know Undergroundagent wanted a lot for it, but what does it normally go for? Whaddya pay for yours, Rooster?
  5. Of course you realize half the board is foaming at the mouth to get this cd after all those glowing reports you presented? Apparently, the whole world doesn't know the existence of this cd but everyone at Organissimo knows all about it!
  6. Ill take it off your hands doubleM. PM'd you.
  7. "Somalia" is my all-time favorite Billy Harper session. The whole thing has to be played LOUD! Great kickbutt music.
  8. Man, I'd hate to look at my ceiling fan underneath my stereo. I've been playing a lot of Larry Young and Grant Green lately. All that greeeeaazzzze!
  9. Man, I'm good! B) I think I'm 3 out of 4 on my upset specials throughout this thread. I was wrong in picking the Bengals over the Steelers, but was correct in picking the Browns over the 49ers and the Jets over the Bills. I oughta go to Vegas! I did feel that the Patriots had a chance against Miami, but couldn't have the courage to pick them. Bill Belichek has to be an early nominee for coach of the year given what he's been able to do with all the team's injuries. Sorry Evan, but who-hoooooo!
  10. I had the Tyrone disc on my want-list from half.com too, so I got the same e-mail. Shit, if I had known that you would have gotten the same e-mail, I woulda kept my mouth shut. (Or did you get it??? - I sure hope so!!!) Yeah Rooster, it's been confirmed. I got it. I say go ahead and continue to crow us awake in the mornings when good stuff comes in. You've got to live up to your name!!! I just happened to have this one on my wish list, but I'm not vigilant all the time, and perhaps others aren't either; so your early morning announcements can help.
  11. One of today's heavyweight matchups is Tennessee at Carolina. I feel no special forecasting vibes on this one, but I believe Tennessee will win. Carolina is definitely for real however. San Diego at Cleveland will be an unpredictable game. You never know which Browns team will show up.
  12. Woke up this morning and turned on my pc and received an email from half.com indicating that Tyrone Washington had come in on my "wish list." I immediately sent in the buy order. Then I log on to this board, and I've got Rooster trumpeting the news around to all of us sleeping humanity. Tom, you are a real rooster!! Hopefully, I was able to get it on time. Thanks for the heads up, Rooster, but half.com already has its "wish list" notifications. BTW, How do you find out about these things so quickly? I mean, do you have it on your wish list as well? Watching ebay or half.com = super temptations to buy.
  13. Great report Dan! Sure hope Organissimo gets the recognition they deserve.
  14. I actually don't mind any household chore so long as I can pump out the music. Problem is that when it's time for me to clean the floor or something, my wife then decides to pound on the piano.
  15. Anything which requires a noisy and loud machine like vacuuming.
  16. Count me as another who believes that Stockton and Malone are/were two great players. Many people share Paul's opinion of Malone as "loser," but I don't think those two Jazz players ever had much teammate support to win the big one. Those good Jazz teams couldn't compare to the teams fielded by the Lakers or Bulls or Pistons. Interesting to see how Malone does with the Lakers.
  17. Great news, Theo. The guys deserve some recognition, and it's only a matter of time.
  18. Jacknife is sending me his copy after listening to it; so count me in as well!!
  19. The only sports I care to follow would be the following: NFL: New England Patriots. Liked em ever since I was a kid. NCAA: Bowling Green University (Ohio) My alma mater.
  20. Moose the Luddite! Hey, I kinda like that!
  21. For someone who doesn't hate any sports teams you sure have a bunch that "bug" you!
  22. Yeah, those bastards!!! (Uh...who let Kenny in here? ) Yah Springboks!! Is that some kind of wild game animal?? The only Aussie team I know is the Penrith Panthers after I spent a week or two down there. Are they...uh good?
  23. Interesting comment, SS. The mastering sounds fine to me. How does it compare to the Mosaic? I do believe you've got both, right? I'm satisfied enough with the recording and probably wouldn't buy it in RVG if it came out. I mean, you never know with these aging and overplayed master tapes!!
  24. Been relistening to "Let 'em Roll" after a long hiatus. Great pick as slab o' greaze of the week! It's a great rollicking session but I would rate Patton's later work as slightly better. The great man's style was already established at the time of this session. The addition of Hutcherson to the date is fine by me; and I think Finch does a fine job on the drums.
