  1. I had no idea about that! Thanks Bentsy. Yet another reason why this is so sad.
  2. Now good thru Christmas eve!
  3. With jazz, as long as one's sweetheart is somewhat tolerant and doesn't bitch, one should be grateful.
  4. I saw this group live with board members sheldonm and ejp626. What a trip it was. An excellent show!
  5. Yes! And Deluge.
  6. Romans 1:26-27 1 Corinthians 6:9 1 Peter somewhere, I can't find it now Jude, verse 7 PS - I'm not finding what I thought in 1 Peter. Don't forget good ol' Leviticus 20:13
  7. I'm saddened by this news. Best wishes to his loved ones.
  8. Its definitely mine!!
  9. This is an excellent disc. Haven't listened to it as much, but every time it plays I'm always taken back by how good the music is. Definitely one of the best new releases of 2006.
  10. I haven't heard any of those. Any particular recommendations? Guy Matthew Shipp's releases on Thirsty Ear are all worth checking out. But for what you are looking for, I'd recommend "Harmony and Abyss", which sounds more like jazz-influenced electronica, whereas his other releases like "Nu Bop" and "Equilibrium" are more like electronica-influenced jazz. All three of them are excellent.
  11. Wow....I wish I could go back to when I discovered these! What a sensation.

    Ahmet Ertegun

Best wishes to him and his family.
  13. Devin Hester. Rookie of the Year.
  14. I listened to the Rolling Stones more than any other artist this year, although Ray Charles is creeping up there with my recent purchase of the Atlantic box set. As far as jazz goes, I'd say I listened the most to Andrew Hill's "Time Lines" and the Miles Davis Cellar Door box set. Andrew Hill, Jackie McLean, Miles Davis and John Coltrane got lots of play this year.
  15. Wow.... If I hadn't just bought that Ray Charles box set, I'd be tempted to use this and spring for that John Cassavetes set from Criterion.
  16. I've got Willie and Big Ben on my fantasy team. Unfortunately, I have a bye this week!
  17. I loved "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" as well. However, I think "The Fountain" eclipses them both. Aranofsky is one of the most exciting filmmakers alive today. I can't wait to see what he does next.
  18. That's insane. Paul Simon's "Surprise" didn't get nominated either.
  19. I've only got "Stand!" and "Riot", and I love em both. Are any of these other ones essential?
  20. Da Bears should take St. Louis out without too much of a fight. The game I'm really excited to see is New Orleans vs. Dallas.
  21. For me, seeing The Fountain was an experience. The story is non-linear and difficult to follow in certain parts. I imagine for alot of people, the movie isn't going to make any sense at all. The best way to approach this film is just to go to the theater and just give yourself over to experiencing what you see and hear on the screen, and don't drive yourself nuts trying to figure everything out while you are watching it. I saw the film almost 24 hours ago, and its now starting to come together for me. The experience of watching this film (not the film itself) reminds me of when I first saw 2001: A Space Odyssy. (which was also released to divided audiences and mixed critical press back in 68)
  22. This was a stunning film. Saw it yesterday, and can't get it out of my head. Right now is one of those times where I just can't seem to be able to put together any cohesive thoughts that explain to people why I was so taken by the film. Its one that is going to take some time to sink in, and would definitely be well-served with a second viewing. But its got my mind spinning with its themes and beautiful imagery. Has anybody else seen it? I imagine this is a movie that is going to divide audiences.
  23. I don't think I ever really appreciated Kenny all that much until I heard "Trompeta Toccata", which knocked me out. Now, I listen to his trumpet playing with new ears.
  24. I guess I'll take a shot at it: John Coltrane - "Blue Train" Sonny Rollins - "A Night at the VV" Wayne Shorter - "Speak No Evil" Art Blakey - "Free for All" Lee Morgan - "The Gigolo" Larry Young - "Unity" Andrew Hill - "Point of Departure" Herbie Hancock - "Maiden Voyage" Jackie McLean - "Right Now" McCoy Tyner - "The Real McCoy" Edit: REALLY wish I could have had one more slot for "Go"
