Mace, in all honesty, while I enjoy Sketches and Bitches Brew, I think of them as oddities of a sort, so in a way, I don't get them either. In other words, it seems that the others involved (Evans on the former, a multitude on the latter) are more the focus than Miles. I'm puzzled as to Prince being included on your list, though. That one seems to be pure Miles to me. Oh, well...

I don't know about the Beastie Boys vs Newton thing, but equating sampling to a jazz player quoting another tune strikes me as total bullshit. Sampling is using the actual performance of another artist. This is NOT the same thing as using the same notes, using the same words, using the same colors, etc. I mean, Steely Dan didn't actually just clip out the bass riff from Song for My Father, the bass player picked up his instrument and played the damned thing, right? No way in hell this is the same thing.

Well...I was planning on watching Boston Legal this year, but so far I've only taped it. My wife and I watch American Dreams on Sunday night. That's it for me, although she has the TV on a few hours a day. It just doesn't appeal to me. Now, if you're talking DVDs, that's a whole 'nother subject. I usually watch two or three hours of those a week, more if the next Simpsons or something just came out... Like some of the others here, my TV time has been replaced by computer time...
