  1. My father was a big Johnny Cash fan, so I grew up surrounded by his LPs. Of course, the "teen rebellion" thing brought along such wisdom in my head as "Johnny Cash sucks". Thankfully, age took care of that idiocy. Cash was a great musician and did more to shape the American music scene than is apparent at first glance. I'll miss him and his work.
  2. Are you sure? I find it hard to believe that stores are getting any product at less than 25% of list. And if this is true, it certainly isn't a "license to print money" for the publishers and distributors!
  3. I had one of those for a bit. I found that, to get the flavor I wanted, I had to use a lot more coffee than with a normal coffee maker.
  4. This one shocks me. I can't say I was ever a big fan of his work, but I must admit his skill at physical comedy brought me a few smiles. And 54 gives me pause...
  5. Bev, I agree with you on this completely; I guess I was just stung by your "unfair" charge.
  6. Bluenoter, I couldn't agree with you more. Such things as the "Babe Thread" were an embarrassment to me at the old Blue Note board, and it remains as much here. I see no useful purpose to the thread, and it's not like you can't find naked or partially clothed women on the internet if that's what you want. You'd think by now people would understand the meaning of the terms "hostile environment" and such, but when forced with the idea of giving up their toys, some still just respond with the kneejerk cries of "PC" and refuse to budge.
  7. Bev, I most assuredly agree that this board seems to deal more with the American Jazz scene and lacks in the area of European jazz. I hope that changes some, and that European posters will follow DrJ's lead and give us more insight into that area of jazz. After all, the reason I started reading, posting, etc. on these internet jazz boards was for educational purposes. I hope no one thinks I consider myself an expert on any field of jazz; I'm just the guy that cracks jokes and hopes to pick everyones' brain! P.D., the bulk of the "Ban Greg" thread consisted of the after effect of the banning, not the banning itself. I agree that it would have been better if another thread had been created for this purpose and the original locked, but this "talking out" had to occur. Online communities always go through this when traumatic occurances shake the community. It takes to long for some peoples tastes to to the online nature of the community, for example not everyone is present at the same time. The same thing happened in the Reissue forum concerning Kevin's deleted threads. If it is this "talking out" exercise that bothers you rather than the title of the thread, I'm afraid you're out of luck. That's just the way online communities function.
  8. Does it? I haven't totalled up the numbers, but I thought we were doing pretty well in this department.
  9. Whoa. I see what you mean, Quincy. So, RT, what did you go with?
  10. Maybe I'm skimming this thread too fast, but did anyone mention Coltrane's Live at the Village Vanguard? Good Dolphy there, and it's probably already on your shelves, RT...
  11. Bev, I understand and agree with your "gentleman's club" criticism of this board, but I don't see how that invalidates my criticism of AAJ. Certainly, any internet board is going to have quirks, particularly when it's devoted to an obscure (by popular-to-the-masses scale) interest such as jazz. I can see oddities with this board, AAJ, and JazzCorner; it's just that this particular thread was about AAJ...
  12. Complete and total B.S. If it had been real, eBay would have directed you to log on to your account and "verify", NOT do so through an email. This is a tip off every time.
  13. Unbelievable! Way to go, dude (and of course, the same to your wife! Uh...except for the "dude" part of course. Oh, just congratulations, okay? )!
  14. Haven't heard it, but thanks for the post; "new Tom Harrell" is synonomous with "want list" for me!
  15. Barak, I haven't listened to Cat Stevens since he announced that yes, Rushdie should be killed. Admittedly, listening to his music at this point would be more of a nostalgia thing than anything else, but I seem to be able to give up that particular pleasure quite easily...
  16. Man, I envy you, Jim; I won't even go near that "silliest cover" thread with my dial-up connection...
  17. I hardly think Ford was "suckered". Given his propensity for antisemitism, and his dedication to spreading the Elders of Zion bullshit hit piece, I would imagine that what we consider Hitler's worst aspects would stand out as his best qualities in Henry Ford's mind...
  18. This sums it up for me. She can claim she didn't know about the death camps at the time, but she damn well knew about them later. I know it's difficult for anyone to allow themselves to believe it when they commit an evil act, even unintentionally, but come on...
  19. I can see your point, Use...if we end up with 100 different forums (fora? fori? damned if I can remember...), we'll all end up missing each other in the wasteland.
  20. Yeah, but remember, he's not eating for 44 days! Wait a minute, that's no food...or is it...hell, I'm confused now.
  21. You know, I think it's just sad that Blaine can't pursue his dreams in peace away from these assholes that are *snicker* ahem, trying to ruin his *GUFFAW* oh, never mind....
  22. 26 unless I missed one or two. Damn, my eyes are getting old...
  23. I've been burned! There's only one version of Traveling Riverside Blues on my jewelcase! Twenty tracks on the first disc, twenty one on the second, if that helps anyone...
  24. I have gone through several Mr. Coffees and a couple of Krupps and a Braun or two, and I wouldn't recommend any of them. Main complaint: why do they make the darn thing so that you can't pull the carafe out with just one hand and not bang the basket around? I think I'll break down and try a Bunn next...
