  1. There are other jazz boards?
  2. Yeah, during the week this IS my social life any more!
  3. Wake up, people! If you don't speak up now, um....
  4. Well....if it was a higher power that rescued her, why couldn't the higher power stay awake the night she was kidnapped? Does the higher power need more caffiene? Oh, I forget, the Smarts were evil backsliding tools of Satan and needed this event to get them hip to the higher power's incessant need for fawning adulation from lesser beings. Okay.
  5. I was going to congratulate you, Dan, but I can't stop staring at your avatar...
  6. I don't mean to tip the scales for those who haven't voted, but 6 is really kickin' ass, isn't it? Boy, the pundits were all wrong on this one!
  7. This is great, guys! So far, the definites are the book The Freedom Principle, Chuck's AEC box and more Dolphy. Then, assuming this board doesn't pull a Blue Note (and I'm sure it won't as a REAL PERSON is in charge!), I can come back for more guidance. So feel free to make more recommendations. I may not act on them immediately, but I will act. You know, this thread is the kind of thing that I came to jazz boards for in the beginning; I'm missing the BNBB even less now. And I haven't been this excited about the music in a couple of years either. Again, thanks!
  8. I'm completely unfamiliar with Tristano's work (gasp!), so anything would be new. Peter, for me there is no "obvious" recommendation so any is welcome! I started to pick that one up when the RVG came out, but was leery of it simply because of The Shape of Jazz to Come. Speaking of which, I listened to it again today, and I guess I just don't get Ornette. And I definitely don't get Don Cherry. Lonely Woman sounds to me like a beautiful song that Cherry does his best to sabotage. Maybe that's a clue to help with recommendations for me, guys: love Dolphy, not so hot on Ornette...
  9. I live in one of those neighborhoods that's "in transition" as they say. The town has highly rated schools, so it attracts a lot of new residents with money. They buy the houses, pull 'em down, and build their new "starter castles" on them. Needless to say, there's a bit of friction between the older, blue collar residents and the newer upscale crowd. Is it just me, or does it seem to anyone else that the more money a neighborhood has, the less "neighborly" it is?
  10. Well, it depends on which side of the guy's head the sheep hit, you see? If it was the left side, then...
  11. I forgot about work! I work in a small, windowless office with no one else to annoy, so KCSM is playing on the radio in there all day. I tell my friends I get paid to listen to jazz. After all, with my salary, the can't expect much work...
  12. Man, ain't that the truth...
  13. Yeah, I heard it once. KCSM played it as their album at noon many months ago, and I decided right then I had to have it, but never picked it up, and it drifted down my list. Time to move it back up!
  14. By the way, just so there's no misunderstanding, I like his playing; just not fond of his singing...
  15. Who was it that said Tom Harrell was just like Chet Baker, but with talent? (Hey, back off people; it wasn't me!! )
  16. Big heads don't bother me. Big HAIR; now that scares the shit outta me! Let me see Poison or Tammy Faye, and I run for the hills...
  17. I've had broken examples of both. The jewel cases I replaced. The digipack I'm stuck with, and of course as it's the "teeth" that break, now the CD isn't securely held. Plastic breaks; I just think the format used should recognize this fact, and allow for replacement. In addition, they're like, uh, not cool, dude...
  18. You know, I still haven't picked up that Haynes' disc; thanks for reminding me about it, Alexander!
  19. I don't know enough about the subject to post intelligently (but I haven't let that stop me before; why start now?), but there's certainly something going on at night. It's almost like the stereo gremlins come in and throw a grand into your system at night, and then take the loot back after you fall asleep... As to when I listen, usually in the afternoon when I get home from work, when the wife is out. Otherwise it's "turn that down/off"...
  20. Duh...I clicked on to see what the other stuff was. I think I need some sleep...
  21. I'm not sure what a "cabeza" is, and if she's got one, it doesn't really narrow down the field that far...
  22. Am I hearing this right? You people LIKE digipaks? Or am I just misreading sarcasm?
  23. I start work at 7 A.M. Unfortunately, I've been a nite owl all my life. I used to come home from school, sleep until dinner, then stay up until 3 in the morning. This was in junior high school. I have NEVER been able to sleep properly during the so called "normal sleeping time". So...I'm dyin' now. I'm sleepy all the time. I thought I'd be able to adapt to this, but I wish to hell I was back on swing or grave... Anyway, I normally sleep from 11 or 12 until 5:30 in the morning.
  24. Sniff. I feel so...unloved...
