  1. Jailhouse Legs Hopkins here. They call me Jailhouse Legs 'cuz of the way I haul ass outa there whenever someone named "Boney" shows up at the cell...
  2. Well, truth be told, in the music department as well...
  3. I must insert here that the Moose already digs Dolphy very much! Out to Lunch is definitely one of my personal "top ten" discs. I don't have a lot of Dolphy, but I have Iron Man and The Illinois Concert. My Dolphy exposure is limited only by my funds. That guy is absolutely amazing! I always thought of him as more avant garde than free, however. But like I've said before, these labels seem to be a very slippery thing after hard bop...
  4. See what you started? Now we'll require a Hank Mobley smiley, and a Wayne Shorter smiley, and an Art Blakey smiley, etc. Hey, could be get a Greg smiley? I thought we already HAD a Greg smiley....
  5. Man, I couldn't agree with you more on this one. Let's face it, the "intellectual property" laws have nothing to do with protecting the creators or insuring innovation, and everything to do with big business milking another dollar off of the corpse of long-dead artists. It's disgusting to see, and insulting to our intelligence to boot. As for the "anger" at Blue Note, I guess I've already dealt with it. There IS no Blue Note. Blue Note is a company that used to exist years ago that was a national treasure. The current owners of the name are, to borrow Zappa's title, only in it for the money. There are plenty of small labels, owned by people who really care about the music that are far more worthy of our support and loyalty. I'm sure some of us could come up with some suggestions...
  6. Never trust a mod. Hell, I was cheering for the rockers in Quadraphenia!
  7. You know darn well what punctured my "hard bop shell", you rat! A few spins of your disc and my head exploded! I've got Shape of Jazz to Come, which never clicked for me; I'll give it another try. I've got Coltrane through the Altantic, but only Expressions and Newport '63 on Impulse (God, that version of "My Favorite Things" is AWEsome!!). Guess that'd be a good place to expand. Chuck's AEC box is on my budget plan for April. (Man, if work doesn't pick up pretty soon...) Threadgill sounds interesting; I'll give him a shot.
  8. I see Jim has passed me in number of posts. Well, I fought the good fight; held out for almost a week! "You kids see that poster right there? I had more posts than him once!" "Shut up, Grandpa; you're drooling again.."
  9. The "Free Jazz Charlatans" thread over on the misc./non-political thread brings to mind a request. I normally hate looking ignorant in public (shut up, berigan!), but I'll admit, I know squat about this area of jazz. Can some of you who are into the scene clue me in on some good starter discs so I can get some exposure?
  10. I don't think it's cool at all. I suppose this is a case of "no harm, no foul", but it tells me something about the man's thought process. If he's willing to alter someone's post without mentioning it "only when it's helpful" who's to say what his definition of helpful is? Add this to the thread I posted to being deleted "to prevent confusion" and I don't particularly care for the answer I get. Sort of clues me in to how conservatives feel about "helpful government interference" if you know what I mean... And "just" to "make sure" I use up my "quota" of "quotation marks" for the "month"...
  11. I was...oh, hell; never mind...
  12. So, what you're saying, Matthew, is that every board you've become a regular at has been shut down? Uh...I think Jazzcorner is looking for new members; maybe you should move over there...
  13. Damn now we're REALLY in trouble P.D. –I’m crushed. Just because I’m a flag waving, liberal, conservative, socialistic, independent, libertarian, democratic, republican, anarchist doesn’t mean I’ll cause trouble. These nested quote boxes are just too cool! I agree! But I have to wonder how far it can go....
  14. Well, after hearing the comments of Pharaohrock of all people, I'll probably pick this up and check it out. I loved Pursuance and Songbook, and was "somewhat disappointed" by Simply Said. If this is a return to the approach of the former (or at least the intent), I don't want to miss it.
  15. Note to self: kulu se mama = rries Yeah, I'm gonna have to start keeping a notebook...
  16. Looks like he's about to pass gas...or George Bush explaining a point. Give us a decent wink!
  17. I don't understand why they didn't just do this from the start, if they wanted to make wholesale changes. It couldn't have been that hard to predict what would happen the way they approached it. I can't help but think someone far up the chain, with no previous exposure to internet bulletin boards, checked out the place and crapped his pants...
  18. Uh...Kenny; I think you're confusing the words "avatar" and "abattoir"...
  19. I hate to admit it, but I kinda enjoy poking at his cage every once in a while. Hey, it's good exercise for him.
  20. Duh...I didn't even think of checking there, David. Yeah, they're fine; I order from them quite a bit. I guess I just assumed it was "too hard to find" for them...
  21. You're probably right, B3-er! I myself was the most intelligent person on the face of the earth at age 13, but it's been downhill ever since...
  22. Well...I couldn't decide which album to use, so that'll work for now!
  23. I think the blue boxes indicate the same thing as "newbie", "member", "senior member", "grand poobah of the universe", etc. but I don't know what the levels are set at. Most places I've seen flip from "newbie" to "member" at either ten or thirty posts; the change to senior member at 100. Or do we even have "senior member" here?
