I’ve been tracking my county — Morris County, NJ — and for the last few days we’ve had around 70-85 new cases per day, which is an improvement from the 120-180 daily cases we’d been having. Yes. I haven’t been following them too closely but they quickly become blatantly political. To a certain extent it’s hard to avoid.

I’m actually surprised we’ve only had three of these threads. Over at Hoffmann, I think they’ve had about 15.

He was also pretty close with Roy Eldridge.

I received an email from Jazz Messengers which appears to indicate this is available now, at least in Europe. It’s not supposed to come out in the US until August. I’m used to certain books originally published in Britain being available months before it's published in the US but not what is seemingly the reverse.

Record Store Day is celebrated in countries around the world, and while every country is going through the same issues, they're not all experiencing them at the same time, or in the same way. In the US, stores have been operating on either no revenue or a fraction of their regular income, and getting ready for one big Day, with a large list of titles to celebrate with is not what they need right now. No one knows what kind of party we'll all be in the mood for, or able to hold safely, at any time this year, in any part of the world. So we're focusing this year not on the party aspect of Record Store Day, but on getting the great releases on the RSD 2020 List into your local record store, and then into your collection. RSD DROPS! Three street dates when titles from The List will be available only at participating indie record stores. We're working on getting the new version of The List -- with newly assigned RSD Drops dates -- all nice and pretty for you. Look for that on the Record Store Day site on June 1. On those RSD Drops dates--8/29, 9/26, 10/24--expect stores to have some procedures in place to keep you and their staff safe and comfortable. Stores will be following their local mandates and each one may be doing things a little differently. We'll be working with them on ideas and best practices, and we'll be relaxing some restrictions on online sales if stores choose to do that. As always, it's a good idea to follow your local record store on social media or start a conversation with them. More information will be coming from them as we move towards the first of the RSD Drops. No plan is going to make everyone happy, and for sure this year looks different than any other, as far as Record Store Day and everything else goes. I thought that because the disc bears the legend Audition, it might have been someone showing Damon they could play. I sent a message to Chuck Haddix vía FB earlier today but haven’t heard back.

For the $2 you might want to go for UPS. Media mail is iffy these days.

That’s also Stupendous. I realize you aren’t a jazz fan so please don’t take offense but we all know about the Dial sessions. They are quite famous. They’ve been released in various forms. I’m sure you can find them on YouTube.

That’s how I passed the bar exam. The professor teaching the bar prep course, John Pieper (still in business), emphasized mnemonics. I memorized those backwards and forwards. He knew bar exams (especially New York’s, which along with California’s and Florida’s, was the hardest in the US). He took every bar exam in the country. In addition, anytime he said such and such will be on the bar exam, we took it as gospel. Damned if he didn’t predict every question that was on the exam. Thanks again John!

Most players at that time wouldn’t have given the crowd the satisfaction. When I was in college in the early 70s, I attended a few Senators games. At one game I was sitting in the CF bleachers and one fan heckled the CF (can’t remember which team) from start to finish. The CF never once acknowledged the heckling which, of course, made the fan madder.

I just listened to part of the file Jake (jabird) most recently posted and it does sounds like Bird but I’m wondering if it’s an air check (recording from the radio, for Jake’s benefit). Re: Quasimodo’s post, what little I can find about the Damon label, is that Damon was Vic Damon’s company. Here’s information about the 1943 Damon session from Peter Losin’s site. Charlie Parker Session Who knows, maybe it’s an undiscovered session.

I listened to the clips and that’s not Bird. Can’t tell you who it is but I can tell you who it isn’t. Contrast your clip with this and you can probably hear the difference.

I received a cd today from Laurie Pepper which I had forgotten about until two days go. It was postmarked on March 23 from California and sent by media mail. Took over a month to get here. There’s hope for my other two packages.
