  1. Interesting that Vido Musso is on the list. Not a lot to hear of him as a leader but what there is available is good. Obviously, Hawkins was listening to Goodman.
  2. Thanks for the articles. I disagree with the Guardian on one point. Although the last few years has seen an attempt to shake up or destroy institutions, I still feel that we are still guided by rules and procedures. Without them, we have anarchy.
  3. The new GM is one who believes that you have to tear it down to a certain extent. One of the reasons he wasn’t hired by the Mets in 2018 is that he wanted to tear it down and build from scratch. That would have been the correct move but the Wilpons had no stomach for that, which is why the Mets are a second class organization and the Red Sox a top organization.
  4. Enjoy David. I’d say that I probably watch one of the Smiley series every year or 18 months. Of all the DVDs or Blue Rays I own, those are the only ones that get re-watched.
  5. Excellent! You might enjoy this. We Are All Smiley’s People
  6. Apparently, they tried to retrade (renegotiating a point in the late stages of a deal that you’ve given up on earlier). That’s a no no and frowned upon. There was nothing that would tick me off more than people trying to retrade. Am I shocked the Wilpons would do that? No.
  7. Homer Plessy (right image), of Plessy vs. Ferguson fame. See Overlooked No More: Homer Plessy, Who Sat on a Train and Stood Up for Civil Rights
  8. It’s a story about an important Falange prisoner in Barcelona who in the final days of the War is to be executed, he runs away, a Republican soldier spares his life and he manages to survive in the forest, with the aid of a few “forest friends,” three Republican soldiers who have deserted. I’m about halfway through the book.
  9. Soldiers of Salamis, a novel of the Spanish Civil War, by Javier Cercas. It reads like non fiction but is actually fiction.
  10. Mobley Mosaic, Disc 1.
  11. My feeling is that everything shows up eventually.
  12. Maybe she meant “Sonny, I’ll pass on that.” You should have asked her if she liked (Big) Bird
  13. I’ve read conflicting reviews on Culture Factory, enough so that I’ve decided to pass on them.
  14. Well, that was posted two years ago
  15. Art Blakey must be up there.
  16. I passed by a Goodwill store the other day and on a whim I stopped and found Brasil 66 Fool on the Hill. At an estate sale, I found these yesterday (plus some rock lps): John Coltrane The Gentle Side of John Coltrane Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz (box set of 6 LPs)
  17. Although I live in NJ, I haven’t listened to the station that much lately (nor, should I add, WKCR). It’s a shame what’s going on and hopefully it can be addressed.
  18. Scott Muni was unique.
  19. For the uninitiated, the 25th Anniversary Mods refers to tubes, right? Any chance you could post a photo of your setup. I would be very interested in seeing it.
  20. As I recall, you have a tube system, right?
  21. Harry Harrison, ‘Good Guy’ Radio D.J., Is Dead at 89 If you grew up in the 60s in the NY metro area, he, along with Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy and Cousin Brucie were part of your daily life. It’s as if that part of your life is now gone. Only Cousin Brucie is left.
