  1. As mjzee mentioned you should have two emails. With many sites, your alternative one acts as your recovery email.
  2. Ted Gioia has a small excerpt in his Substack page. He calls the book “the most readable narrative account to date of a milestone moment in American music.” Three Shades of Blue
  3. He’s a conspiracy theorist and he’s not a credible source. Nothing more need be said.
  4. My son started collecting graded Pokémon cards during the pandemic but lost interest and now he’s selling them, mostly at a loss.
  5. Is this your first time reading this? Catcher in the Rye, even today, is a book people like to ban. According to one site I saw, “The American Library Association states that The Catcher in the Rye has been banned by schools and public libraries for having ‘excess vulgar language, sexual scenes, things concerning moral issues, excessive violence and anything dealing with the occult’ and ‘communism,’ among other things.” Yeah, that’s the whole point of reading it! I still have my original copy that I read back in 9th or 10th grade in 1965 or 1966.
  6. For those who are interested there’s at least one FB discussion about this. https://www.facebook.com/groups/JazzVinylLovers/permalink/24996359180009874/
  7. RIP. I remember them fondly from the 60s.
  8. Thanks. Just thinking of the day when I might have to sell my collection.
  9. I’m curious, if you don’t mind me asking. If you were living in Santa Fe then did they pick it up or did you ship it to them?
  10. The RSD site says the vinyl is limited to 4,000 and the CD to 2,000. The recording is coming from the Iconic Artists Group which may own the musics assets of the Cole Estate and whose mission seems to be to promote their artists. Some of these smaller companies that make titles for RSD, based on past practice, don’t seem as interested in wider exploitation as say a Resonance.
  11. I assume this counts as madness but since I’m not one to go after original pressings this may or may not be crazy but an original pressing of Blue Train sold yesterday for $12,600. https://www.ebay.com/itm/296243318459?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=SR8ECHeEQn2&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=8Clsqs3wSRS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  12. The RSD site says that the CDs (as well as the vinyl) are RSD exclusive. That may mean that you can only get them at the participating stores. One thing I’ve found is that you can usually find RSD titles at close to retail price online (Discogs and eBay) after the RSD date.

    RIP Richard Lewis

I watched the latest episode which included Richard Lewis for a few minutes and I have no idea when they filmed the episode but he looked pretty bad, nothing like he had looked like in the most recent season.
  14. The Holmes albums may be unsurprising. Some of his later efforts seem to get away from his soul jazz beginnings.
  15. The issue I have is that if I have the cd of a Tone Poet or a Classic, I don’t want to duplicate what I have but will make exceptions.
  16. That’s the problem this book is going to have.
  17. There’s been a little but not a lot of discussion about the Muse catalogue (around 500 records) which is owned by Craft through their acquisition of Savoy in 2017, which acquired it from 32 Jazz in 2002. Craft has done nothing with it and when I asked about it those marketing fools don’t know what I’m talking about. I talked to Scott but it’s not on their radar. I think it’s “criminal” that, aside from 32 Jazz and the Shaw Mosaic, nothing has been done with this humongous catalogue I peppered him with emails to get them to at least think about something. However, I think it’s better to talk to Michael about this than Scott. Can someone send me his email. Initially, I don’t expect a different result but you have to keep at it with them as I’m sure they receive a lot of suggestions.
  18. You can get that now through Third Man.
  19. I see there is a new book coming out about Miles, Coltrane and Evans. The only review I can find is in the Wall Street Journal by Gerald Early but since I don’t subscribe to the WSJ, I can’t read it. Here’s the blurb from the publisher, Random House, Three Shades of Blue

    RIP Richard Lewis

That’s why the show is popular! My favorite bit is when he uses the doctor’s phone.
  21. I sort of feel like Ken Dryden about not buying LPs if I have the CDs (although I’ve made a few exceptions). Feel the same way about constantly reissuing new CDs just to get a teeny better sound but to each his own.
