MLB 2018: let the games begin!
Brad replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Okay, historic, I agree. Historic as in being two of the teams in the American League and National League as they existed in 1900. Even though they are now the LA Dodgers, they’re still the Dodgers. You’d be surprised at how many fans they still have in NY. -

This morning I’ve watched the replay a few times, read a few articles and looked at a few photos (including of one fan placing his hand on the wall to be in a better position to catch the ball) and I still think it was fan interference but it was also a close call and since West made the out call, there would have to have been strong evidence to overturn the call. Had the call gone the other way I don’t think it would have been overturned. I read that many said that the call may have cost them the game as it would have been 2-2. That is hard to say because you can’t assume the Red Sox wouldn’t have come back. Each game has its ebb and flow and you can’t view events in isolation. However, it’s understandable why Astro fans would be upset. Coming back from 3-1 is not impossible and I expect the series to go back to Boston. I would certainly like to see a Red Sox Dodgers series; two great traditional teams, with great history and two great ballparks. I’ve never been to Chavez Ravine but love the atmosphere and the organ. Went to Fenway many times when I was in law school. Great place to watch a game. -

If the Dodgers met the Red Sox, it would be their first meeting in the WS since 1916 when the Red Sox beat Brooklyn, then known as the Robins, after their manager Wilbert Robinson, affectionately known as Uncle Robbie. Brooklyn did not officially become known as the Dodgers until 1932. -

I'm not a Red Sox fan so that's your first mistake. From the replays it looks like his glove was level with the wall but the umpires both in the field and back in NY had a long good look at it -- probably a better look than you or I had -- so I think their judgment was the correct one. Be that as it may the Astros seized the lead twice so it didn't cost them. -

Terrible how? There was fan interference. It was correctly decided. I understand as an Astros fan you wouldn’t be happy about it, though. -

Porcello looks shaky tonight. I thought the review delay would settle him down but doesn’t look like it. -
There are a lot of interesting reissues on that list like a few from the Gellers, Frank Foster and The Great Jazz Trio.

On Machado, I recall reading earlier this summer that GMs thought that both he and Harper would wind up on the Phillies. I hope not! Besides the Yankees, I know that some radio announcers were hoping that the Mets would pursue him. Considering that the owners are tightwads, I don’t see that happening. -

From press reports, it sounds like he and Aguilar discussed it although it wasn't clear if he apologized. In this article in the New York Times, it sounds like he has a history of questionable base running. You are judged by your history. -

I went to bed around 1230 so I missed it. I just saw the play but I'm not completely convinced it was intentional; his turning around after he did it could be interpreted both ways. Reminds me of what Arod against the Sox except that was clearly intentional. What I found amusing was his reaction when he called time, the umpire refused to give and he was struck out. He must have annoyed the ump for the ump to refuse to call time. -
Did Vince Guaraldi Peanuts Scores Inspire You to Learn Jazz?
Brad replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Musician's Forum
The only Peanuts I knew about was the comic strip we used to read in the International Herald Tribune because we lived overseas. What planted the Jazz seed in me — which didn’t germinate for many years — was Time for Jazz hosted by Willis Conover on the Voice of America. I still can’t listen to Take the A Train (his introductory theme) without thinking about that show. -
I can’t admit I’m a big fan of Herbie Mann — this is not intentional or anything like that — but he seems like an artist that is ignored or neglected. I’m happy to be proved wrong.

A reality check for Spain as they fell convincingly to England. Reading the Spanish press, they are harkening back to what happened in Russia. Also, what is happening to Germany? They could be relegated in the Nations League. They still seem to be in a funk. -

Your team has been doing great. There’s a good mix of veterans and young players. -

Jeffress hasn’t been particularly impressive in this series (I didn’t see last night’s game) so you could say the Dodgers are unlucky to be down 2-1. It could easily be the reverse. -

Blame it on some questionable relief pitching. I doubt that he will find a job next year. Old guys get thrown on the scrap heap sooner these days. Let’s hope the Sox can win two out of the three down in Texas. -

As I said previously 9 CDs is too many for me and I’m not disappointed that I missed it. -
