They would send an email saying that if you didn’t take (and pass!) the course in 20, 10, etc. days, they would notify your supervisor. Invariably, he’d send me an email asking me to take care of it when I could; he was great to work for.

I’m not sure the Brewers bullpen is up to the task. -

If the Sox don’t win tonight, it’s probably over. I have a feeling we’re looking at Astros Dodgers II, with the same result. -
I liked it quite a bit. Touches of Tarantino. Took awhile for the story to come together but clicked when it did.

Here’s another vote for Nite Life, which a couple of posters have recommended.

Think of Monk by Ethan Iverson in the New Yorker. Article in Ethan’s blog about writing the article, Monk Centennial: Primary and Secondary Documents Comment by Michael Cuscuna in today’s Jazz Gazette, referring to the article in Ethan’s blog: “Thelonious Monk: A Centennial Treasure Chest Any observation that comes out of Ethan Iverson’s brain is worth serious consideration. While I am not always in accord with his encyclopedic commentary on Monk’s recordings and compositions, I find everything he has to say enlightening and insightful. This is a great read and his comment on Billy Higgins is spot on. During a soundcheck for the Bobby Hutcherson-Harold Land Quintet at Royce Hall in 1981, Billy was late. But when he finally sat down at the drums, I could feel the music lift ten feet off the ground.”

I obviously don't see a lot of Brewers game but in the few games I've seen Jeffress I'm less than impressed. He's the second coming of Armando Benitez. -

Yes, Ed Whitson. They will probably get a ball and a bat for him. When you are a team like the Red Sox or the Yankees, you can afford to eat ($) your mistakes. -

I didn’t have to resort to the web to know who Bryant’s agent is. I just knew. In a couple of years Michael Conforto — who came alive in the second half after finally recovering from his horrific 2017 injury — will be eligible for FA and I’m afraid he will leave because, you guessed it, Boras is his agent. -
We have some bad winds just now. Knocked down some power lines. Generator kicked in.

Weather is dipping down below 60 around here. It’s that time of year.

My recollection — which could be wrong — was that although Gregg was not a good umpire he didn’t have a chip on his shoulder like Hernandez and West. Whenever I saw that Hernandez was going to ump a Met game, I groaned because he had it in for them. -
Fantastic photo of the fall season.

We are in an era where GMs don’t want a strong independent manager but one they can control and where they, the GMs, make the decisions and the managers get along with the players and don’t publicly criticize them. Old guys are out and younger guys in. I can’t speak for other cities but those are the kinds of managers we now have for both NY teams. That is why guys like Girardi were shown the door. The Yankees said that even if Girardi had won the WS, they would have made the change. He was here 10 years and maybe the players weren’t listening to him anymore. Maddon is rumored to be thinking about a switch and it was definitely time for Sciosia to leave. -
Good points. I’ve put a brake — as much as possible — on new purchases and am focusing on what I have, which is plenty.

In today's Times, Seeds of the Yankees Loss Were Planted Last Winter A choice quote: "For all the times Girardi was criticized for managing a middle-of-May game as if it were October, Boone twice managed October games as if it were the middle of May." -
Cannonball Adderley "Swingin' in Seattle: Live at the Penthouse (1966-1967)"

Good news. The Wynton Kelly Wes Montgomery Smokin' in Seattle was very good and good sound. From the Resonance site regarding the Wynton Kelly Cd: "Located in the heart of Seattle’s historic district in Pioneer Square, the Penthouse jazz club was opened in 1962 by Charles Puzzo, Sr., and quickly became a destination for iconic jazz talents such as John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz and The Three Sounds to name a few. Well-known radio personality, Jim Wilke, developed a working relationship with this legendary club, which in turn allowed him to air live broadcasts from the club every Thursday night using state-of-the-art equipment of that era. His weekly radio show, Jazz from the Penthouse, aired on Seattle’s NPR affiliate, KING FM from 1962 through 1968, and has never been rebroadcast. When executive producer George Klabin learned of these recordings, he couldn’t believe his good fortune to come across this thrilling 1960s material of Wes Montgomery with Wynton Kelly." -
The company I worked for did that too, along with other courses which required you to timely complete them, or you'd receive a warning. In the harassment area of the law (unlike some others), intent is irrelevant. If we don't keep this as political free as we possibly can, we will send Chairman Mao after you

Up to a point, yes, if it doesn’t cost more than a modest fee but after that, it wouldn’t be worth it, at least for me, but to each his own. As my wife has told me on more than one occasion, you get what you pay for.
