  1. Previously unpublished photos celebrating the Armistice, whose 100th anniversary is tomorrow. It was the “War to end all Wars” but it merely set the stage for an even fiercer conflict.   5. Hope this doesn’t sound like a dumb question but a few cuts in the set are denominated alternative takes. How do you have alternative takes in a live recording, especially one that has never been previously issued. Aren’t they just songs played during different sets?

  7. Years ago I purchased and listened to A Jazz Hour With Coleman Hawkins and Roy Eldridge and remember liking it.
  8. Ditto. Good listening. I emailed the label about the extra track on the download not on the cd set. Their reply seemed (to me) cryptic: “The full audio from the tapes would not fit on the chosen format hence additional passes.” They later said “additional passes”means “everything that was on the tapes.”

  14. I’m up to disc 3. C Jam Blues is awesome and although I’m not one who usually goes for long drum solos, Roy Brooks’ solo is terrific. I wonder if this set will have a residual effect of leading to more purchases of the Mingus Mosaic set.

  18. There’s nothing to prevent a person from making a cd of the track for a friend or a few friends. I have no idea what the “wild” means.
