  1. If you’re at all interested in Hemingway, I recommend Blume’s book on the book. In addition, Michael Cirino and Michael Von Cannon host the podcast One True Pod. For me, as a Hemingway fan, it’s essential listening. They cover all things Hemingway and talk to many different authors, asking them to share their “one true sentence” (which comes from his memoir, A Moveable Feast) from a Hemingway story. ***** For John le Carre fans, there is news. A new George Smiley novel is coming out next year. It’s being written by his son Nicholas Cornwell who writes professionally under the name Nick Harkaway. It’s set between the end of The Spy Who Came in From the Cold and Tinker Tailor. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/nov/10/john-le-carres-son-to-write-new-george-smiley-novel?CMP=twt_books_b-gdnbooks We will find out whether that was a good idea (and I have my doubts).
  2. Not just here.
  3. That’s a good one. I have it on LP.
  4. Just because it is out of print and Mosaic is no longer receiving revenue doesn’t mean that they have given up any IP rights to the booklet.
  5. Unless Mosaic has granted them the right to post these on their site, posting them seems like a case of copyright infringement.
  6. They’re also issuing the Heath Brothers in concert.
  7. The same artist did a BN one.
  8. This is a good one. So are the one in the jazz in Paris series. https://www.discogs.com/release/734090-Don-Byas-En-Ce-Temps-Là https://www.discogs.com/release/22037230-Don-Byas-Laura
  9. I’ve found that in the last calendar quarter of each year and the following quarter, they don’t introduce jazz titles so I wasn’t surprised with their current offerings in the Classics section.
  10. Bullitt is one of my favorite movies. I’ve seen it countless times. Steve McQueen did his own stunts. The jazz score by Lalo Schifrin is terrific.
  11. Yes. You can quit at will without penalty. I’ve done it twice. I’m currently not a member.
  12. It’s a fabulous album, especially the title track where he sings. Earl Hines’ Tour de Force albums are fantastic. So is the Mosaic Master Jazz Piano box.
  13. I don’t think that’s completely true because they did work with Concord on the Savoy set. Hopefully, we’ll see more collaborations in the future.
  14. True but their Jazz Dispensary section has put out some good stuff like Leon Spencer.
  15. Scott at Mosaic confirmed to me several months ago that they’re not returning to vinyl.
  16. I’m on the fence about purchasing the new red and blue records.
  17. While I enjoyed the various takes of Stablemates and Red Cross, I got a real kick out of his playing Soprano Sax on In a Sentimental Mood. It’s a moving rendition.
  18. I don’t know about the only one but I never confused them.
  19. The owner, Mike is a rather interesting character and not shy about speaking his mind. On several occasions he’s slammed The Electric Recording Company. He was also the one that raised the whole Mobile Fidelity digital issue.
  20. Yesterday, I received an email, apparently from PayPal, that I was being charged $747 for some appliance. I presumed it was fraudulent but I logged onto my account to make sure. Someone indeed had sent me an invoice for that amount but PayPal immediately flagged it as spam and canceled it. I called to make sure and they confirmed that no funds had been paid.
