  1. Had no problems at all.
  2. The Post Office Girl is like two different novels and the view is that it’s incomplete. It was found among his papers after he committed suicide. It’s not my favorite Zweig book but it’s not bad.
  3. I recently finished Chris Matthews' book on RFK. Bobby was always a hero of mine but because of his death I've always had trouble reading anything about his campaign. It's a very good book and well written. I've ordered Arthur Schlesinger's book, which is a classic account. Had it years ago but will give it another try. I also finished LeCarre's Legacy of Spies last week; it's sort of a retrospective and a sequel. That has led me to re-read The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, although I couldn't find my original copy. All the new editions of his books have introductions by LeCarre, an added bonus.
  4. All the beers in the list are awful. All their advertising won’t help them.
  5. I received this yesterday and enjoying it quite a bit.
  6. Thanks for this. Just ordered it.
  7. I’m sorry to hear this. Many years ago I sold him or he sold me a cd on eBay and I asked him if he ever checked out the Forum. He wasn’t aware of it but became a strong contributor.
  8. I just read the article quickly and the book is richer in detail and you learn a lot more about The Odyssey than you do the article. That being said, if you don’t want to read The Odyssey or learn more about it, the article is sufficient and it’s a great article in and of itself. On the other hand, reading the book has motivated me to learn more about Ancient Greece.
  9. You try to remember the anniversary of their births but to wish someone Happy Birthday who has been dead for several years is odd, in my opinion. When I think of my Father, who died in 1976, on his birthday, I sometimes think how old he would be that day or say to myself, "today is Dad's birthday," but to say Happy Birthday would seem peculiar and foreign. I also remember when he passed away (unexpectedly).
  10. Yeah, this is to die for
  11. Following up on Mendelsohn's An Odyssey, I have now started Emily Wilson's new translation. I'm also reading I'm a big fan of Magda Szabo.
  12. I may be in for the Oscars.
  13. I have the mini lp I purchased a few years ago. That's good enough me.
  14. I didn't read the excerpt but I will take a look.
  15. I will stick with the RVG.
  16. Sounds interesting. Like Paul, I never downloaded the iTunes material so this appears a possibility.
  17. If you're looking for a tremendous book to read on the Civil War, I recommend this one. **** Just finished this. A fantastic book, both about Homer's Odyssey and the author's relationship with his father, who takes his class on the Odyssey.
  18. A shame. RIP Bruce.
  19. Article in today’s New York Times. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/12/06/arts/music/qwest-tv-quincy-jones-jazz-video.html
  20. Mr. Bennet is probably not too different from many of us, who want a little peace and quiet from the commotion in his house and probably couldn’t say no to his wife, who is truly annoying. Mrs Bennet probably is not fond of Elizabeth because she has more of an ambition than simply getting married.
  21. I read P & P a couple of months ago and will be reading S & S soon. Mr. Bennett is almost a side character but who can’t sympathize with his plight. Although certain of his daughters are annoying, none can compare with Mr. Collins. A truly annoying man! The book’s opening line is a classic.
  22. Just finished this tonight, a novel of the Spanish Civil War, told from the Republican side, and principally written in epistolary form.
  23. I would be more impressed by the former.
