  1. These athletes are just plain stupid, thinking they'll never be caught. This meat story is also a very convenient but well conceived story; it can't be disproven.
  2. I really can't see anyone but the Phillies making it. Their top 3 pitchers are phenomenol. Who wants to face them? The other teams just don't impress me. I also think the Phils could beat anyone from the AL but there's a long way to go before we get there.
  3. This just never ends does it? For the sake of the sport I hope it is just a food contamination problem.
  4. I saw last night's episode and thought it was pretty good, a good snapshot about how things were back in the 90s. I especially liked the part about Torre and the Latin ballplayers, especially how hard it is for them (as well as anyone else) to make it.
  5. Hey fans! Fake Michael Kay has been shut down. The real one is pretty bad.
  6. Ah yes, the Big Red Machine had to contend with the Dodgers, and the Pirates & the Phils knocked each other around in the '70s. Just to illustrate how good some of these teams were from that time, consider the following. From '72-'76 the Reds played better than .600 ball, so it's safe to say with wild cards they would have made it 4 straight years. Though it's difficult to make up a 3 division system for the time between the expansion waves of the early '70s until the early '90s that makes absolute sense (not that sensible geography is necessary in sports), it's possible that the Reds might have made the playoffs every year from '72-'81. Note they did not make the playoffs in the split season strike year of '81 despite having the best record. The Dodgers from '70 thru '78 probably would have made the playoffs throughout that run, which gives you an idea how much the Reds & Dodgers beat up on each other back then. Finally the Pirates from '74-'77 would have won in a wild card world. As would the Phils from '75-'78. Penn. state ruled baseball in those years (and before & after, as the above is just the "streak.") Of course such a playoff environment would have changed everything (meaning roster & trades, how the games were played with playoff spots on the line), and I'm not trying to detract from the Phils accomplishment one bit, just pointing out how adding playoff spots might have looked in the '70s. I'll leave it to the AL East crowd to figure out the AL "what if". It's hard to compare periods with the differing amount of teams that can make the post season. That being said they have been in two straight WS and I will be shocked if not a third. Doing that would be impressive.
  7. I had doubts when Liverpool hired Roy Hodgson and nothing has happened to dispel those doubts.
  8. Real Madrid won but on the Marca site, Casillas begged the fans for indulgence as the team coalesces.
  9. Not a great pick in my view.
  10. If you like KD, then this is for you.
  11. Friendly or no friendly, the Spanish loss to Argentina yesterday, 4-1, was an embarassment. Following the tie with Mexico, they better wake up and realize that as World Champions, everyone is going to be out try to beat them.
  12. Have decided to sell my Pacific Jazz Piano Trios, like Kevin. Mosaic Select 19, three CDs. Contains the music of Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles and Clare Fischer. Very hard to obtain music and this Select is very OOP. Set number 4,981 out of 5,000. Price is $150, payment by paypal or money order. US shipping via UPS included, international will be via priority mail. Everything is in mint condition: Cds, inserts, box and book. This box set contains the music from 4 artists, Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles & Clare Fischer. Most of this music has never been available since it was first released on various LPs back in late 50's/early 60's. Please Pm me if interested.
  13. Maybe they don't publicize as they don't want to affect sales of the hard discs themselves: apeealing to two different markets. Although Capitol or whomever owns the music, Mosaic probably owns the rights to the compilations. With music it seems the assets get very thinly sliced.
  14. I'm not a copyright attorney but I believe the answer is yes. You're depriving the holder of royalties.
  15. It is pretty unbelievable, particularly Chelsea. Wonder how many times that has happened. Their GF average can only go down from here!
  16. Bird is the word!
  17. Unless a real miracle happens, they are going to be in real trouble: no points out of 12.
  18. When you ask most people "what is two plus two," the answer will be four. With Goodspeak (a misnomer of a name, no offense) the answer might be five, six, seven, but never four
  19. Mike, Sorry I missed your birthday but sounds like you're doing well, which is great to hear.
  20. Disagree. If the Mets really wanted to do the right thing they would have tried to void his contract BEFORE they found out about the season ending injury. The fact that they tried to void his contract AFTER finding out about the injury just seems really lame, imho. I mean if he hadn't hurt himself he would still be wearing a Mets' uniform. WTF? Finally some good press for a Phillies fan. Disagree? Disagree on what? I was only clarifying what had been said and opining on the Mets chances of voiding, which are not too good. I don't think you can void an agreement based on what he did criminally. However they probably thought it was worth it based on his hurting himself and therefore depriving them of his services. Moreover, since they wanted to suspend him more than they could, this is probably a way of sending that message. I disagree that the Mets are not blameworthy. Like Dan said every MLB contract has a "morals" clause and if the Mets wanted to send a message they could have, nay, SHOULD HAVE, at the very least put him on a restricted list like the Cubs did with Zambrano. The fact that they are trying to void his contract only after they found out about his season ending injury just makes them look like a bunch of a-holes. YMMV. And just so that you don't think I'm picking on the Mets... back in 2006 then Phillie Brett Myers assaulted his wife before a game in Boston. The Phillies should have cut bait with him then and there, imho, but they did nothing. No suspension, no suggestion to go seek counseling, nada. Most, if not all teams, will take the path of least resistance until they get some heat. After all, when you're dealing with a key player, you want to protect your investment. I'm not sure what they're trying to prove with their actions since there is no chance of winning although they likely will not have to pay him for the remainder of the season. I guess it's all PR.
  21. Looks like Blackpool came down to earth, very roughly too! West Ham looks to be in a littke bit of trouble already.

  23. Philly Q is right; they wanted to suspend him more but the Union wouldn't allow it so don't blame the Mets here. The Mets won't win this. It will also lessen his trade value because everyone knows they don't want him back. Also the manager and G M will be looking for new jobs I'm sure.
  24. When I'm on the subway or a noisy train and I hear people listening to their MP3s, you know that they've had to turn up the volume to hear the music. Tinnitis could become an epidemic. It's not a fun thing to suffer from.
  25. I hope that that Clemens saves the adjoining cell for Barroid.
