Cootie Williams "The Big Challenge" As good as his others?
Brad replied to Jazztropic's topic in Recommendations
Double thanks Brownie. -
If I'm not mistaken but might be he did a good one on the Bethlehem label.

Think I have all of this but the thing I find odd about omitting private recordings because of the sound quality is that they've included the Redcross recordings in the hotel room. That isn't exactly pristine sound.

I suppose it was a bit of a generalization but generally I think it holds true and otherwise agree with Dan. If the sole reason for Lee staying in Texas vs. coming to NY was the tax issue, that wouldn't hold the Yankees back, considering they could probably make up that number with increased merchandising sales, higher ad fees on YES and what have you, not to mention the extra revenue derived from going to the World Series, if that's what Lee would do.

Article on Mosaic from the Stamford Advocate
Brad replied to mjzee's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Nice article. I used to live in Stamford (but before I became interested in jazz). However, I did drive up there once and met Scott. However, I think he had hair then Yeah, Cindy was great. Hope she's doing well. -
Oh mi god, we signed Jeter! Unbelievable Seriously, players go where the money is. That's all that matters to most of them. This is Lee's big chance and maybe only one for a huge payout. He will go with the team that offers that, plus can be competitive. When discussing contracts we need to divorce emotions and keep it at dollars and cents. You go where the money is. This may be cynical but true.

I thought A.J. actually pitched fairly well last night--if Joe Girardi had lifted him after the IBB, as he should have, that game might have had a very different outcome. (In fact, Jsngry, Joe's managing of the bullpen in Game 4 comes close to giving back what Texas gave to us in Game 1.) If, by some mad chance, NY made it to the World Series, we'd probably see A.J. again. Meantime, what was with the wild dude who stormed the field last night trying to attack A-Rod--allegedly because he's jealous of A-Rod's relationship with Cameron Diaz? Guy goes by the name of Grim LeRogue... posters over at Pinstripe Alley were joking that it was one of the mods. I thought he did a creditable job but Girardi a bad one by not pulling him earlier. Girardi has never impressed me; I don't think he has a clue as to what is going on. Looks like they're stuck with him as the Cubs position is now filled.

Ahmad Jamal, Vindicated

I agree with Dan. I know ballplayers look at games one at a time but they have to be a little demoralized as things seemed to be going their way for a little while last night. Don't give them a chance to breathe.

Based on what we've seen so far there's really nothing to indicate that they can win three in a row, particularly with the way the bullpen has been exposed. They will probably win tonight but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Well, one batter too long. Good use of video, showing Molina hitting that HR for the Angels right before he hit it out.

That Yankee fan was lucky Hamilton didn't drive in a run. Could have been NY's answer to Steve Barkman.

None taken Dan. The term I've heard referred to those kinds of parents are "helicopter parents"

Kevin, I'm glad things went well. We just became empty nesters as my son has gone off to college and it hasn't been an easy transition as he has some learning issues that pose a challenge (ADD and processing), plus he's not very independent, not to mention it's difficult letting go. When he's been the center of your life for the last 18 years, you say to yourself, ok, what do I do now? We are actually reading a book called "Letting Go," and it's a pretty good primer. Basically, you need to let kids learn to do things on their own or they will never become self sufficient.

I'm still not convinced about the Rangers for reasons stated earlier. However, you can ride a big gun in the playoffs and he may, as Hersheiser did for the Dodgers in 1988, get you to the promised land. Btw, the Dodgers weren't that great in 88 (the Mets and As) were far better but they had Hershiser. Maybe that is the difference as far as this Series is concerned.

This is kind of embarassing. Don't listen to this man. He knows nothing.

ESPN says the Yanks have decided to stick with Burnett in Game 4. Frankly, I'm not sure how you make that call before you know the results of Game 3, but I guess they know what they're doing. Girardi made that call before the ALCS started. The fans on WFAN are starting to freak out a little bit with this Lee thing. This was mentioned on Mike Francesa's Mike'd Up show on WNBC that follows the football game last night. The Yankee beat reporter, Sweeney Murtey, and a reporter for the Daily News realize this is the pivotal game. Sweeney was talking to Ron Darling and thought it might be similar to the Mets not wanting to face Mike Scott in game 7 of the Houston Mets 1986 series. If that's the case, they better win 3 of the next 4 games. Years ago, I heard someone say that in a tied series (e.g., 1-1), the third game is not a pivotal game because someone has to win (e.g., someone will be up or down 2-1) and that the pivotal game is actually the next game. I think that is true. If the Yanks go down 2-1, the fourth game, the Burnett game, will be THE pivotal game.

12.86 I rather enjoyed today's game, particularly because, out of necessity, I had to listen to most of it on the radio (road gig, 2.5 hour drive), AM radio at that. Talk about a primal experience on all levels.... That's a great way to enjoy a game especially when you're driving by yourself, just the way it used to be. As they like to say now, they're "painting a word picture."

Texas SF wouldn't be too scintillating. Giants yes but their other dance partner no. Low scoring games play into Giants hand since they're offensively handicapped. Philly has not done too much run wise in four games. That better change soon.
-
Man, sorry to hear that. Yeah, I've read about the dispute. Hope you you get to a bar to watch your team. If Yanks make it to the WS are they not going to show it in NY. There will be he'll to pay.

Well, let the second guessing begin. Pettite should have been on the mound tonight.

Hot and humid is no joke. If we ever go again, it's going to be in the fall

This team can hit but bullpen is suspect and tonight they showed it. Just because they have Lee going in game 3, that doesn't mean he's going to automatically win. He ain't Koufax man. They only won 90 or so games (not sure of the exact number) so let's not go crazy. They probably should have been up by 5 after the first but you can argue that either way I suppose. I'll give them a game but that's it. When you're up 5-0, you've got to seal the deal and this a game they had to have.
