They are definitely in a ticklish position with Jeter and Arod but Ripken moved over to third so why not Jeter, especially if it's for the good of the team. Not having to worry about fielding would help Arod. I'd cut Posada or relegate him to a pinch hitter. He only caught about half the games anyway and he will be catching less anyway. Yankee fans can answer but I think they do have some prospects to replace him. At short, try to find someone young who has range. I hope that Lee stays with Texas or goes to anyone but the Yanks but if he does sign with them, I'd try to jettison Burnett, no easy feat with his contract. They had to know that it would be a crap shoot with him anyway. He helped lead them to a title anyway so they probably got what they're going to get out of him. They also really to overhaul the bullpen. It was badly exposed and could be worse with Wood expected to leave. Yup, couldn't happen to a nicer team but never write them off.

Mike Francesa on WFAN interviewed Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman today. Here are the interviews. Later on Mike talked to Sweeney Murtey, the WFAN beat reporter, and a baseball reporter from the Daily News who covers the Yankees and they discussed how the Rangers scouting report had indicated that the left side of the infield had slowed down and was vulnerable, as well as Posada being so. One of the options they discussed was making Arod the DH and moving Jeter to 3rd. Another point of discussion was what to do about Posada. One possibility would be to release him but that all depended on what happened with Montero, who might be possible trade bait for a front line starter, which they felt was needed. Unfortunately, this conversation was not put on the WFAN web site. Too bad as it was pretty interesting. One of the benefits of living in NY

Hopefully all the bad news is out of the way Kevin and things will be getting a whole lot better starting today.

I was looking into this and saw some reference on a website saying that is actually drawn from: "the antarã [upper-octave variation] of a well-known gat [fixed composition set to a rhythmic accompaniment] of the late-night rāga Bageshree, in Hindustani classical music." See http://en.academic.r...f/enwiki/162495 Don't ask me what that means

Okay. Okay.

Heard about that the other day. Wonder if that is unprecedented?

Having reviewed the discussion, you almost have to divide things into three phases, pre 1969, 1969 to when we only had only just the League Championship Series and since then. This also makes sense when looking at stats. It's impossible to equate how many HRs a person has hit in the post season since 1969 with how many Mantle hit, for example. In the period we're in, there is no question the 1996-2000 Yanks are the best, just considering how difficult it is. Even without this arbitrary measuring stick, it's difficult to say that a team from this period is better or not as good as a team from the 1970s or 1960s. Different time, different way of playing the game and so forth. We all have favorites because those are the teams that meant the most to us as we probably saw them actually play.

Amazed it was still around. Sony lost this market years ago. Didn't make the leap. Amazed it was still around. Sony lost this market years ago. Didn't make the leap.

Articles for Yankee fans in today's New York Times: For Yankee Fans, Winter Comes Early, Bringing Questions With It As Postseason Turns to Offseason.... Yankees More Than An Ace Away It is possible that for the remaining members of the late 90s run, last year might have been the last hurrah. Unfortunately, for the Yankees, they're in a tough position with Jeter and Posada. Hopefully, Jeter returns to a more productive season but they're stuck with Posada for another year, with diminishing returns, in all likelihood. The Yankees cast Bernie aside when it suited their needs so you can never tell what happens with Posada.

Congrats Goodspeak. It's a good feeling. Hope you guys make it this time and hope you get to one of the games. Hope they get Willie to throw out the first ball at one of the games. If the Rangers were the original Senators, you could say this was a reunion of the 1924 World Series. Unfortunately those days are behind us. We're now in the days where anything is sold for money. For example, on the Mets radio telecasts, when they reach the 15th batter, a certain insurance company sponsors it.

I would take several teams over the 96-00 edition including the 1960-62 edition of the Yankees. If you're just going to count titles then there is no meaningful discussion. I would sooner take the Reds, the Baltimore teams of the 60s, the mid 70s version of the Yankees than this group. Don't get me wrong, they are a fine team but the greatest time of the past 50? Not a chance. I saw all those teams play in person and they're just not that. As far as why Yankee fans are picked on, every team's fans has their annoying moments but, unless you live in the NY area day in and day out you wouldn't understand. It's great to be a fan from where you are but it's just not the same thing.

Looks like Ryan and Carlos Beltran now have something in common. Didn't see I'd see something like that again anytime soon. Since I'm an old NY NL fan and Mays is God, go Giants. Maybe this will be the year. They beat what I thought would be the WS winner so why not?
-
Posey should have been ruled out: ran outside of the base line. Re Ghost's post I just have to laugh. Greatest team of the past 50 years. Don't make me laugh. Yankee fans wherever they live are all alike, just arrogant, the expectation that they are going to or are entitled to win. Just try living with them all year around. That rant from an obviously intellectually challenged "fan" is just so typical you have to laugh. It's always fun to revel in their agony: 2004 and 2010.
-
I'm not one either but they have a glorious history, love 'em or hate 'em, and so they're going to have their fans. At least one half of the nightmare WS is gone. Now it's up to the Giants to do their job
-
Go tell that to their fans; see what they say.

I have XM (same thing) and get the channel on Channel 70. I listen to it a lot. The only drawback is that they seem to repeat things a lot. I notice this a lot with their Classic Vinyl rock station. One of the programs that I like is the "organ hour" on Fridays at 7 pm est. I understand the comments about smaller stations and DJs but when you're on long drives where local reception fades in and out, XM Sirius is a real plus. I can also access it from work via the web, another plus.

Not really. Only one team showed up. Yeah, no kidding. As far as Jim's rant about the Yanks go, it's is not about money but because they have national, strike that, international following. It's been that way for years and ain't going to change. I mean you've got Ghost and Dave who love them as an example. Naturally, Cashman is going to be asked what's next. I'm not a Yankee fan but I want to know what's next. I follow them ad much as my own team. Rangers are a nice story but come next season the attention will decrease somewhat even if they win and people will want to know what the Yanks are doing, what the Dodgers are doing, what the Red sox are doing and so forth. It's just the natural order of things. As a Mets fan, I'm used to second place status; just the way it is. When your heritage is the Babe, Gherig, Dickey, DiMaggio, Mickey, Yogi (I could go and on), you've won 27 titles and play in the most famous ballpark in the world (maybe next to Wembley), you've earned that attention.
-
Well, that's that. Yankees looked lifeless in this game. Oddly enough I saw the last game between the Yankees and the Senators before they moved to Texas. It was a crazy scene, with the fans storming the field in the top of the ninth with the Yanks leading.

I see Joba is up. Now, this makes no sense: having Kerry Wood in before Joba; the complete reverse of Game 4. You need to be consistent on how you use these guys.
-
Two run shot. Now they are in serious shit. Relief pitching is just killing them. Girardi's on the phone but you have to be ready. Doesn't look like they are. George must be fuming.
-
There's trouble brewing in River City.
-
Regarding the Milk man, he wasn't that great and I think he started to go downhill the last couple of years with the Yanks. Good move to get rid of him. Re the Giants, you didn't really expect them to sweep at home?

Here's another example of money talking, but not in this sport: Wayne Rooney of Manchester United in the English Premier League announced earlier this week that he was unhappy being at Man U. His manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, later announced that he was resigned to losing him and there were demonstrations outside of Rooney's home. Rooney is one of the top players in English footbaball. Today, it's announced that he's signed a new five year extension with Manchester. Oh, mi god, what a shock. Don't tell me most of them (regardless of sport) aren't motivated by the dollar or pound. But you know that's the way it probably should be. This is a business and it's their livelihood and they don't have that long to cash in on it.

Brad replied to Van Basten II's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I didn't see anything really extraordinary in his talk. His main point seemed that the team was unlucky, which may be the case (I didn't see the match).
