Beatles For Sale, mediocre ? No Reply,I'm A Loser, Baby's In Black,Eight Days A Week, I'll Follow The Sun, Every Little Thing are mediocre ? I'm just going from memory but isn't Mr. Moonlight on that album. Not to mention Kansas City (my first exposure to that song). Not mediocre to me.

It's still available at Amazon for $230. Gonna take a couple of weeks for them to get it back in stock, but that's about the best price you're going to find. After reading all the comments here, I succumbed and ordered the mono box from Amazon. I think delivery time is three weeks minimum. This will be on top of the seven stereo ones I purchased yesterday so it will be interesting to compare.

I was living in Brasil in 1962 when my mother won this album in a school lottery. I constantly played that album and it came with me when we moved back to the US in 1963, back to Brasil in 1964, back to the US in 1964, to Spain in 1965 and back to the US in 1967. Thinking that the Cd age was upon us, with vinyl never to be revisited, I sold it in 1984, a move I've regretted ever since, but the memories stay with you.

I guess Allen missed the lesson that day about run on sentences

I know this is not the same but the local Fye had one of the original Dexter Cds, which you used to go for a lot before the Select. If anybody wants me to get it, I'll go back this weekend to see if it's still there.

That is a pretty funny article for sure, totally dead pan.

Fortunately, I had purchased all those Selects as they were issued or I'd be facing a big bill today. Besides the ones on Kevin's list, I'd recommend the Bennie Green. Never a big fan of the Pearson although I have it. Of the no longer available ones, I have the Gordon, Brookmeyer and the Pepper and I like them in inverse order. I hope someone gets their ass fired for that. How the hell can you destroy a master. Jesus Christ

Agree about the basslines.

I picked up four this morning: Revolver, Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour and Abbey Road. I started to listen to Revolver and sound is good. Of course, I haven't listened to the album in probably 20 years so nothing to compare it to. I was 16/17 when this first came out and I can still summon from my brain which song comes next. It brought me back to a simpler time when my friends would argue about who was better: the Beatles or the Stones. No complaints at all here.

I just read through some of the comments (and added one of my own). If you can touch people the way he has, what more can you ask out of life. Rest In Peace Mr. Higgins.

I'm late to this thread but I have several of his Cds and they are wonderful music making, full of brilliance, great playing and class. The pity is that most of his music seemed to be only available on Japanese Cds and not more available to the public.

Mono or stereo?? I think it was the individual cds not the boxes but I'll check.

Maybe the future Mrs. Chewy

Called my local Borders today to see if they're taking pre-orders. Answer was no, but they'll have 'em Wed morning at 9 so that's where I'll be.

Scrolling down the page, I think that the link to the other Chicago Tribune story ("Maniacs coming together to critique the Beatles reissues") contains far more interesting nuggets of info re: various songs. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainmen...obref=obnetwork We're all nut cases!

Went to FYE today and got Curtis Counce, The Curtis Counce Group, Volume 1; and two by Clifford Jordan: Clifford Jordan Big Band and Night of the Mark VII.

Seems like last year was an exception to his steady decline, but what a hell of an exception. I scoffed when the trade was made but it got them a crown so hard to argue with that.

Belated birthday as well!

chuck nessa used to be involved with uptown, there must be loads of discussion of various releases somewhere on this board you can browse and (probably) stream a good deal of their catalogue here http://www.lastfm.de/label/Uptown+Jazz/albums Very good issue from Uptown.
-
I assume you're buying the new ones.
-
I will be getting Revolver (their best IMHO), Rubber Soul (a close second) and Magical Mystery Tour.

Great purchase by Jeff of the Jazztet set. We need more modern jazz Mosaics.
