  1. I don't really agree with the Mets heading for Oriole-level incompetence for years to come. Some of their injured players may be back soon and I think they'll make a respectable showing (of course, I don't think they'll win anything). For the near future, they have some decent or could have some decent starting ptiching and they have Reyes, Beltran, Wright and Franceour under contract, with Martinez hopefully blossoming. No, their farm isn't that great so some work needs to be done there. I'm not as pessimistic but by no means optimistic either. Madoff has definitely hurt ownership (some say $700 million) so where things go who knows. They'll just be so so, not great, not Oriole-like.
  2. "I've only done this once"? Sounds like they haven't ironed all of the kinks yet, so I'll wait for trip number 10 ... or maybe #100. Plus, what's this about payment after we get back? Why are we getting paid (and what are we doing while we're gone)? Dan, I think they're counting on us not returning!
  3. Did any of you hear or watch that Mets news conference where Omar Minaya fired Bernazard (Assistant GM) and then accused a reporter of writing the story so he could get a front office job, which Omar then had to apologize for, sounding like a moron. He was barely intelligible. They should fire him. It's embarassing. In the midst of all this, the Mets have won three in a row, with the possibility that some of the walking wounded may be returning from the DL. Oh, it's trying being a Metsie!
  4. I picked up a used copy of the Prestige Story a couple of months ago from F.Y.E. dirt cheap. Definitely worth it.

    Blue Note

The well has been mostly dry since the late 70s. Reissue availability is quite a bit better than it was then. And the exceptions to the rule would make for a fine weekend of listening at least - 80s Andrew Hill, Greg Osby, Mark Shim, Kurt Elling, Particia Barber, Javon Jackson, Dianne Reeves ... Stefon Harris, Jason Moran ... Yeah, it might be time to discontinue the series. I've been passing up 90% of the RVGs lately because I have all the stuff. I suppose it would be worthwhile keeping it going if there are newer fans out there. Have no idea, however, if that's the case. On the Mosaic debate, it's like a tempest in a whatever that phrase is. I'm quite happy with the way Mosaic does it. As someone said, you can't listen to cover art.
  6. The Duke Cds are on back order at CDU.
  7. Great answer Jeff. I'm sure that none of the Classics had access to the masters; I'm sure they just copied from a LP. Not complaining: it's better than nothing!

    Rare Blue Notes

I just happened to order this used off Amazon. Looks like the 1989 CD, which is by far and away the most affordable option. Got that a few years back in the TOCJ format. Also purchased the old Straight No Chaser off of ebay. Man, that cost a pretty penny.
  9. I just never cared for the arrangements and I have some of the Jimmy Smith sides so I'm offering it at a discount.
  10. I have the Nelson Mosaic for sale for $80. The first two CDs have been listened to once. The other CDs are still sealed. Everything is mint. Shipping in the US would be $7 via UPS. Please Pm me if interested. Thanks.
  11. Bev, Thanks. I will follow your advice and see the sights and lots of Guiness!
  12. Thanks for the update. Any other rumors?
  13. I'm going to be in Dublin next weekend as I have a meeting on Monday. Can anyone suggest good record shops (both jazz and non-jazz). Thanks in advance.
  14. Very cool. Not something you see every day in a train station.
  15. I have the CD as a burn. It's been a couple of years since I listened but a lackluster affair is not what comes to mind.
  16. Double agree with Hans. Selects are bare bones; just the original music and the original liner notes.
  17. That noise would drive me crazy if I were her opponent.
  18. I have a TOCJ of Blue Train. I think I paid too much for it because shortly after it was released in the US.
  19. Any thoughts about the Higgins Cds?
  20. According to Borders' web site, the Kahn book is not due out until September 30. It's not listed on Amazon.
  21. All of them? Amen to that brother. However, if you don't want to do that, the one thing you have to get is the Complete Savoy and Dial (the 8 disc set), plus the three disc Live Performances on Savoy. Bird's rendition of White Christmas is worth the whole set. Another essential is the Verve. If you don't want the Complete set (also 8 cds I think), Verve did a master set of about 3 or 4 cds). The Jay McShann stuff is also great. The Upttown concert with Diz is also very good.
