I'd love to see Uptown reissue Dameronia CDs. I know Chuck talked about it awhile ago but also told us not to hold our breath.

How 'bout a Terry Gibbs 50's/60's Mercury Mosaic?
Brad replied to Son-of-a-Weizen's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Unfortunately, contractual weirdness seems to happen a lot. Shame. Maybe someone should start a thread about Mosaics we'll never see. -
Would agree with Jim but it's not a concept that I'd buy into. The only solo albums that seem to work are pianos probably for the reasons stated earlier in the thread.

If you're a fan of LD, you have to pick up this set.

Jazz Photos From Slate
Brad replied to Dan Gould's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
Wow, those are awesome pictures. Nothing does a jazz musician justice like black and white. -
Stitt is a must have. My next set: I'm going to wait for the Dizzy set.

Well, better late than never I guess.

Wonder if there is anything else interesting in the Library of Congress?

Any uncovered Lester has to be a significant find.

I'm not familiar with the McDuff and Jones but will pick them up. Wasn't going to get the Jones but based on Magnificent's comment, count me in.

It's the books that make the difference as a lot of the material is available already.

The Birth of Bebop Scott Deveaux
Brad replied to fent99's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
The Proper Box is a very good intro to bop. I would also get ahold of Dizzy's Savoy box and if you want to go all out the Bird Dial Savoy box. 8 Cds but a must for a good collection. -
The recollection by his former student was very moving. Thanks for posting that.

What about the Quebec? That was reissued not long ago. Didn't pick it up since I had the Mosaic. I unloaded the Brooks LP Mosaic since I had all the CDs and they were more accessible.

I live in the NY area and have listened to Schaap a lot. Early on in my jazz life, I learned a lot from him but as I got more experienced, his talking does tend to get on the nerves, so much so that if I'm listening in the car, my wife will even wish that he moved on to the music. He's knowledgeable but a few savvy people have told me that you have to take what he says with a grain of salt.

This is terrible news. RIP and thanks. Two of my favorites at different stages in his career are A Long Tall Drink of the Blues and One Step Beyond. Very sad.

It's Jussieu Music. It was a great place with a friendly young man taking care of the jazz store. He is gone and so is the old friendly atmosphere. The people in charge of the jazz store are into their music and computer and don't seem to pay much attention to the customers. The selection nowadays is less impressive than it used to be! Bought a lot from the store. Not anymore Sorry for the misspelling Brownie. Too bad about the place. I also remember a place nearby up a slight hill but I went there on a Monday and it was closed. Any good?

You're wrong there. Mint doesn't mean never opened. It does mean like it came out of the factory but never opened (the cellophane still on the cds)? No way. Ha ha ha ! You're the one who sold it to me aren't you ?! No, just jivin' you man ! It's cool. Didn't mean to come too uppity on that on

If you look at the older links, there's a reference to a Jusseau Music. That's a place I like. Great selection and lots of used stuff. Easily accessible from the Metro.

Lon, All the best also. My best wishes. As to the Conns, I'll probably go for the Blackburn, Blakey and Evans as I've never heard them. Have the McLean and the other 2 don't really do it for me.
