    Verve Record Club

I’m not crazy about the idea but I’m probably not the customer they’re aiming at; I only have about a dozen TPs. Joe Harley told me on FB that they had received requests for a subscription service so go figure.
  2. LOL!
  3. I had my annual hearing test and my hearing worsened to the extent that the audiologist suggested an ochlear ear implant, which since that involves surgery to the head is not something I want to do; I had knee surgery this year and at this point I’ve seen enough doctors to last me awhile. She made adjustments and that seems to work well.
  4. I’ve always thought the sound was pretty good. I’m sure the audiophiles would probably complain a little bit. It would probably make a good Classic. Just as it’s been reissued in Japan in cd, it’s also been reissued in vinyl.
  5. My general rule is that if I have the cd I don’t purchase a TP and I have the cd.
  6. Larry Tye, who has written several biographies, including ones on RFK and Joe McCarthy, which were well received, has written a relatively new one (May 2024) called The Jazzmen about Ellington, Armstrong and Basie. He recently had an article in the NYT. How a Refuge on Rails Inspired Jazz Classics Has anyone read the book or thought about getting it?
  7. To me it’s a scam.
  8. I don’t think anyone here would know the answer, especially as to the relationship between Sony and the estate on the one hand and Sony and its retailers on the other, not to mention possibly existing distribution agreements between Sony and its distributors who would then have their own arrangements with retailers. Based on my experience, income is recorded at point of sale but sales tax (which you’re not asking about) could be based on buyer’s location. This is all accounting which I think is beyond the knowledge of most here, unless we have an accountant in our midst.
  9. Your reasons make sense but if it were me I’d spend some time in the city to make sure it’s what you imagine it to be.
  10. Yes, it’s live, from 1950.
  11. I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks so.
  12. Disc 1 of a three record set.
  13. Yes, it’s great. The only thing odd is the sequencing, going from newest to oldest.
  14. My parents had his albums when I was a kid and I played them a lot but it’s not something that appeals to me anymore.
  15. RIP to an icon.
  16. The Oticons have what is called a speaker; it’s right before the tip that goes in your ear. You need to change them every ten days or so as they get filled with wax but this doesn’t entail a visit to your audiologist or Costco or wherever and they are quite inexpensive.
  17. Different models I believe. If you go to an ophthalmologist he/she makes the prescription but doesn’t fill it. An audiologist does both. My guess is that they do both because it’s a profession that has less people than the eye business. More specialized perhaps?
  18. When I first got my new hearing aids she set them up for me and when I had a problem I returned and she adjusted them. No problems since then.
