  1. At least LeMahieu is asymptomatic. Several players have announced they’re going to sit out the season and Mike Trout says he’s thinking about doing it.
  2. Two players on the Yankees have the virus: D.J. LeMahieu and Luis Cessa.
  3. You’re right. I was looking at the main thread. It’s hard to keep track of all the threads there are on that forum.
  4. If I have more than two at a time, I’m making a prolonged visit to the reading room!
  5. As far as I can tell (and it’s hard to read every post, unless it was in a separate thread), it didn’t seem to generate a lot of discussion on Hoffman.
  6. I received mine earlier this week. It’s from Amazon, sold by Rarewaves. I think it was one of the last copies.
  7. I came across this story this morning from the LA Times, which speaks for itself, Californians are losing their fear of the coronavirus, setting the stage for disaster In the story (and I have heard this elsewhere), people are saying why can’t we do so and so if you let people protest. It’s hard to disagree with that argument. It does smack of a double standard. Yes, I understand the argument that the protests were a matter of public concern, etc. but many don’t see it that way. Welcome to America.
  8. That is an amazing story. Thanks for posting it.
  9. Did you ever read this? Great little book.
  10. Added this to my list:
  11. I found what looks like a nice LP copy of Herbie Mann’s At the Village Gate at an estate sale today.
  12. Did you see the photos of those two idiots pointing guns at protestors. Their law practice must have taken a bit hit. They’re ambulance chasers anyway so fuck ‘em.
  13. I’m happy to see that politicians of all stripes are now agreeing that people should wear masks. Wearing a mask not a panacea but it’s important.
  14. Calling someone a racial epithet doesn’t mean you have the right to beat up the person. The victim of the assault is bringing charges after initially deciding not to (saying the assault was partially her fault). A sad state of affairs. Fighting Over Masks in Public Is the New American Pastime This harkens back to the discussion we had back in May over the proper balance between rights and responsibilities. Until this country, as a whole, decides that our responsibilities to each other matter more than individual rights, this disease will not be controlled.
  15. How many fans will opt out from watching the season?
  16. I first remember him from the Dick Van Dyke Show, which he created. A true legend. RIP.
  17. Are you referring to resentment that you feel against family members? If so, I think that’s natural. I think most companies would understand and let you attend remotely. It’s great that players have the financial wherewithal to opt out (not to mention not being penalized for not showing up). Most of us can’t do that.
  18. Wearing masks in warm weather, especially tight, confined areas, is not particularly easy so anything that brings many people together in arenas or outdoor areas ain’t a great idea. I have no objection to the 2B idea during the pandemic era provided it doesn’t becomes permanent. Baseball, unlike football, has no experience or rules governing tie games so I’m sure that was considered and rejected. Rule changes (within reason) that lessens lengths of games in this era should be encouraged. The 2B idea seems similar to the college football idea of starting at the opponent’s 20 or 25 yard line in overtime games.
  19. I’m waiting for my new copy of Berlin Alexanderplatz to arrive so in the meantime I’m reading Abigail by Magda Szabo. I love all her books that have appeared in English. I came across this article about Moby Dick tonight. Worth a read. Melville’s Whale Was a Warning We Failed to Heed
  20. Right. I was assuming — incorrectly— that it was the Ace reissue.
  21. Perhaps you could write to Scott at Mosaic with your question.
  22. Do you know if Ace had access to the masters or is this basically a needle drop?
