  1. Where have I heard this name before, and why does that picture make me wish it was a Country album called This Life Keeps Me From The Cold?
  2. Slow Sad Larry - Pets Without Pockets
  3. Flirting with frisky! The world at peace, still frisky, yeah, works for me!
  4. I got that mid-70s RCA reissue and kept waiting for some fire...it never quite came. Good record enough, though. But whatever an "icon" it has become, it's about the backstory, not the music, and that can bug me a little if i think about it too long. HA!
  5. The reviews of the time (that I've read), and some of the other literature, were all about Sonny took all that time off for THIS, and, wow, he's SO much better and fresher live (sound familiar?). It was not exactly "warmly received". It took me a loooooong time to get to those other RCA albums in a coherent fashion, and I'm like, Our Man In Jazz? OUTSTANDING!!! Sonny Meets Hawk? MIND-BLOWING!!! Now's The Time? WHOA!!! and so forth. Never mind that one set of outtakes that French RCA got out before Sonny shut it down. Hell, I heard the mid-60s bootlegs before the "legit" albums. All that stuff was OOP for the better part of the 70s, so for me it was (almost) all a mystery, a parallel Sonnyverse. And it's like, the narrative already started forming without the full history, and here we are. Is that Complete RCA box still available for a good price? Because for me, that's the shit right there.
  6. I'm with Felser on this and for me "Christian" has totally nothing to do with it. Like most pop/rock/schlock of the post-commodification era, it's just a bunch of exaggerated celebration of (at best) mediocrity. Institutional trap-laying for mental and spiritual (as in non-religious) possibility-shrinking. But apparently a lot of people like that sort of thing. I like a good meatloaf sandwich, though. But that is not this.
  7. Yeah, but you'd have to have legit rights to the tapes to do that. This one looks totally NOT that to me.
  8. Kinda of a drag how the author skipped straight from The Bridge to the impulse! records...the RCA albums in-between those two points are much more interesting than The Bridge. I'd like to see them get more attention, even today. Still, grateful that Sonny is still alive and talking!
  9. I know what too often happens when you have an accident with a LP. Irrevocable damage. I also know what usually happens when you have an accident with a CD. Damn near nothing. Too bad that CDs were already on the market for 10 or so years before the recording/mixing/mastering processes caught up (and finally surpassed) their analog counterparts. But now that they have, hell, put it all on thumb drives for all I care, continue to consolidate and condense.
  10. yeah, i had to google as well, and now know (and care) even less now that i did before! but over the holliday, my daughter and her boyfriend played me some Korean house producer's work that was actually VRY nice. But it weren't no K-Pop, not at all.
  11. who is BTS? Bachman-Turner Subwoofer?
  12. This. If they could.
  13. Looks sketchy as far as "legit" goes...the two "bonus cuts" are from this: Has Gordiy Pilhaus moved to Japan?
  14. Mangione? Jazz Brothers?
  15. Donna Flandango - Puddin' Pops and Dixie Cups
  16. Is George Clinton on this album?
  17. Loopy doopy donna moopy, everybody channa goopy!
  18. Budd Johnson?
  19. Ketchup or tomato paste?
  20. Stealth, that one is. Gil Goldstein got it
  21. RIP
  22. She did a thing called Bird Calls on UA (,I prefer), and a Marian McPartland all-female project in the 1980s. She also in the person who first played "I Remember Bird". A unique voice, she was. Perhaps a yon to Clean head ,Vinson's yang?
  23. Sometimes they get a plea deal and a jury isn't needed and they send you home. But if it's not, then you need to be there to go in for further action. And while that's happening, they can still get a deal or a postponement, all sorts of things. It's not like you can be on standby at the crip and they send a limo to pick you up if and only if and when they need you. If only....
  24. Not if you don't mind an LP being a mini-jukebox, and not everybody minded that.
