  1. Is most everybody there married?
  2. DAMN good!!!
  3. Started noticing the retro version of new bulbs a few years ago and bought some for our dining room light set. They look cool, but don't make shit for actual light. Looking to take them out and away as soon as they go bad.
  4. Always.
  5. John Purcell was/is a very gifted multi-woodwind specialist. He was guest artist on a few Daagnim records that I was on. A very professional guy. Among his other credits, he also ended up as a member of the World Saxophone Quartet. Perhaps not the most distinguishable soloist ever, but definitely a supremely talented musician.
  6. HA! This was a half-page ad , IIRC. Probably had one in DB as well. I never really suspected fraud, but I did have a fear about sending money in to a company that never really got off the ground business-wise, and then what? And for how long, to get the money back? They were operating out of California then so, you know, money gets lost every day. All's well that ends well, and/but the recent, uh...unpredictability of Mosaic's last few releases is kind of a flashback for me, to that opening launch. Only this time, i know it's going to work out in the end, no matter how sloppy it gets.
  7. That's the one I ordered and finally got. And the whole thing blew me away, it was a level of content and presentation heretofore unseen, at least by me. But it took a while to get it. There was a pretty harrowing wait of at least six months(?) between the time I sent my check in and the time anybody said anything about this is taking us longer than we expected, thank you for your patience. I was worrying that my check had been cashed (it had been) and that this was some kind of failed experiment, maybe even a fraud. And I'm thinking I placed the order in 1982 (I think the ad was in Musician magazine?) and it took until 1983 for them to actually get product out. In the days of just mail-order and snail mail...you were pretty much left in the dark unless and until you heard from them.
  8. Maybe they had some really good, uh..."refreshments" available?
  9. If I'm remembering correctly, ( was living in Albuquerque when I placed my first order based off a magazine ad, and it took a good long while before the order actually got fulfilled, 1982-83, I'm thinking.
  10. Do they have post offices in Canada, or does all the mail go direct?
  11. I think that the "absence" of the piano that night opened them both up, especially Warne.
  12. Know him mostly from personnel listings on Ellington records, plus the stint with Mingus. Good to finally put a face to the name, and his playing here is nicely seasoned, as it should be, with that resume!
  13. She had multiple spellings for whatever reason, but having said that, hell if I know! https://wallacebass.com/patti-bown-overcoming-in-triplicate/ This article mentions her working the Gate as well as her "big" personality, so probably so, piano with lively banter.
  14. Yeah, some guy has "revived" the name and, presumably, the teachings. The world is full of people who were legends as teachers, and almost unknown as players. All I can glom about Stanley Spector was that his star pupils were Jake Hanna and Steve Smith.

  16. Not unlike the Stax tour of Europe in 1967(?). The had all the OG players on board, but they all had to relearn all the songs because for them, it was all like a day at the office, get one down, go on to the next one, don't look back. What millions op people knew by memory, these guys were like "huh? which one was that?" I applaud the work ethic there.
  17. Nice article, and I like the sly "Little Brother" "Montgomery" trick!
  18. and I'm all about not going out for too much of anything until the COVID thing is better tamed than it is right now.
  19. Indeed, went for a total (for me) WTF? to a total OIC! in literally minutes!
  20. I might take a meal and/or nap break.
