  1. Evans was her parrot, against whom her opinions were frequently bounced while writing.
  2. Yeah, 10' was (mostly) the OG LP. I'm a fan of the medium as objects (and occasionally as records). Once 12" became the norm, that look (and sound!) was pretty much gone forever. Half Price will usually have some, and I look for anything that appeals, for whatever reason. For classical, it's actually a big deal sometimes, because there are some things that never made it past 10" until the CD era, and then only sometimes.
  3. Oh, it's everywhere. But the natural acceptance of just any damn conspiracy theory has been building for quite a while now. Tabloid journalism opened the door for people being willing to believe any damn thing about anybody "famous", and then "social media" just accelerated it into the negative dissolution zone we're in now. Nobody is who they seem, nobody. Which is of course true. But it doesn't follow that what you don't see is always evil or that not showing you everything is because you're really Satan Come Down, I mean, that's just stupid. Public is where business lives, and business is never 100% transparent. NEVER. So get your heads out of your asses, America. You want to know how stupid people are? Back in the day, "Illuminati" was, like, Trilateral Commission, Bilderbergers, Rockefellers, Kissingers, etc. World domination, financial manuevering, political malevolence on a global scale, etc. NOW it's fucking Hollywood Satanic Sex Orgies. C'mon motherfuckers THINK. Both are certainly real, but they are not the same thing. Critical thinking is, by and large, dead, the digitalization of the brain into "binary choices" is going to go where it goes, which on the current curve is straight to hell, albeit in a very painfully slow motion.

    Tina Brooks

Or that it was in hock, or that his horn was in a bit of disrepair (it happens), and the guy wanted him to have a good horn for the gig. Now the question is - what kind of a horn did he buy for Tina? If it was a Selmer, wow. But even if it wasn't, that's a really nice gesture and a sign of pretty high respect for a player.
  5. Now it's time to get the ball rolling on that Bill Barron Mosaic!
  6. Our generation grew up on conspiracy theories, UFOs, JFK, Viet Nam, on and on and on on and on (it's like the hot butter on the SAY WHAT????). We have lost our collective ability to cull, discern, and just flat out call bullshit when bullshit it obviously is. Boomers. Again. I'll call it on mine, all you millXers or whatever, y'all call it on your own.
  7. https://www.psychedelicbabymag.com/2011/07/side-street-in-new-mexico-jenell-kesler.html Jenell Kesler seems to be an interesting person!
  8. Can't see the video, but surely this is a Cannonball production?
  9. Well, him and Art Fleming, yeah. Prayers for the next host to not be dumbed down any more than the game sorta got to be. But Alex Trebek yeah, gotta love Alex Trebek. What is RIP and thank you?
  10. A life not wasted. RIP,
  11. I guess I'm carrying this one to my grave, 1947, full frontal Okie via CC, just....DAMN is that good.
  12. INTENT TO DEFRAUD!!!!!
  13. no you didn't...
  14. March, please.
  15. Two Littles up front big it UP. otoh, by the time it's over, Joe Pass & NHOP & Louis Bellson get all Pablo-y and you just want to say hey, chillax, it's going fine, you don't need to force it, ok? But they don't listen, they never do, and why should they, there getting paid for doing that, right?
  16. I remember a late-ish one in guitar Player(?) where he just went off on how soul-numbing studio work got. At what point that was, he didn't say, so maybe it was before he stopped doing it or after, who knows? Bottom line, for me - he was an Okie, and was at his best when that part of him came out loud and clear.
  17. That's a really good record.
  18. Najee can play. Wasn't he MD for Anita Baker for quite a bit? That's some serious cred, imo.
  19. Any and all criticisms are valid, but the fact remains that there is some seriously badass guitar playing here in front of a seriously badass band who is doing some seriously badass (role)playing. I mean, Phil Upchurch on rhythm guitar, that's all you need to know. Phil Upchurch ain't gonna leave the groove at home, you know? Besides, some of this singing ir REALLY good. And some of it's not. Oh well!
  20. https://www.axios.com/mlbs-bleak-short-term-future-8c8077e6-33f3-4c25-a389-664749964eef.html MLB's bleak short-term future Excerpts: The bottom line, via WashPost's Dave Sheinin: "For baseball, 2020 featured an ugly labor battle that played out in public, a season reduced by 63%, a couple of major coronavirus outbreaks ... and total regular season attendance of zero. "But as the coming months wear on, it may be possible to look back and regard 2020 as the good old days."
  21. very much enjoying the two previously unreleased bonus cuts. the resto this album plays itself quite pleasantly on the Discman and in the memory, Perhaps(?) success spoiled George Benson, but at this point, ambition was kicking his ass into high gear.
  22. It was a bootleg record from a bootleg tape. The tape speed as released was almost certainly original to the tape itself, especially since the whole session had the same issue.
