  1. The fact that their stadium is called 'Wankdorf' doesn't help! This headline seems somewhat tounge in cheek. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=337901&cc=4716
  2. Was in Riyadh and Kuwait last week. Highs were around 47C, you really couldn't be outside for more than a few minutes during the day.
  3. Fopp is great for £3 to £5 specials. Really miss the Bath store, where you could pick up much of the Blue Note/Capitol catalogue and CBS/Sony stuff for £5. Got some truly great deals there. At least the Bristol store up by the University is still operating and doing the £3 deals. Not quite as accessible for me though. I haven't bothered with Fopp in Manchester recently - not since they were "HMV-ised". HMV's promise of allowing them to trade as before seems to have crumbled and the jazz stock has now been reduced to the pathetic collection you can find in their owner's store up the road. The prices are much better though! At the FOPP in Covent Garden I picked up 'Lady Day: The Complete Billie Holiday on Columbia' for 10 pounds and Sonny Rollins 'Road Shows Vol. 1' for 3 pounds.
  4. Hey Wallace, how about some images!
  5. Duke Jordan - Flight to Jordan With Dizzy Reece, Stanley Turrentine, Reggie Workman and Art Taylor.
  6. John Coltrane - The Gentle Side of John Coltrane (Gotta start somewhere)
  7. For anyone in the London area, FOPP in Covent Garden had a few copies of the Sony Legacy Billie Holiday 'Complete Columbia' box for 10 pounds (less than $15) when I was there last week. Picked up a copy myself.
  8. Given the choice between a Mosaic and lunch at the Maze I'd go for the latter. In fact I recently was given exactly that choice and that's exactly what I did. Uh, I'm sure your cafe is nice too. Are you sure you are qualified to even read this board - let alone contribute?

  10. The best price seems to be at Amazon Canada. Bought the set there at C$37.99 a couple of months ago and I see it is still in stock at that price. That is the equivalent of around $36 or Euro 28.
  11. Glad your auctions are going well. I assume your buyer is in the US, $45 per CD for international shipping seems a bit on the high side.
  12. Think I would prefer a dead man to Gordon Brown.

    RIP Mike Zwerin

Sad to hear. I used to love his Wednesday columns in the old IHT. RIP.
  14. Roxy Music at the Rainbow Theater in London in 1973. Still remember all the glitter and platform shoes.
  15. Nice article from The Guardian. http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2010/mar/18/big-star-alex-chilton
  16. Just started reading 'After Dark' and came across this on You Tube.
  17. All of the subsequent series, Next Generation, Voyager and especially Deep Space 9 were much better in my opinion.
  18. Damages - season 1 episode 1. Compelling viewing! Can't wait for episode 2 next week. Any views on this from those that have seen all of the first season?
  19. Worth noting that the Fopp Covent Garden store on Earlham Street was doing a thriving trade when I was there a couple of weeks ago and is definitely worth a look with several bargains to be had (not so much on jazz though). And yes, central London was bustling and all the restaurants and pubs I visited were very busy.
  20. Agreed, Lee's masterpiece in my opinion!
  21. We get it Lon! 'The Sopranos' was one of the best tv shows ever made but the main characters were not exactly choir boys. Anyway, 'Mad Men' sounds like a great series, personally I love anything with a 'rat pack' vibe.
  22. Dexter Gordon - Complete Blue Note 60's Sessions. Bought used for around $45 which I guess is a pretty good price.
  23. Does anyone know whether there are any plans to release remastered versions of the Red (1962-66) and Blue (1967-1970) albums? These contain pretty much all the Beatles I need (blasphemy, I know).
  24. SecondSpin have another good promotion until Thursday: 25% off and free domestic and international shipping on orders over $40. The two Coltrane boxes are still available.
