I recall there used to be occasional concerts at her "Deep Listening Space" in Kingston. I meant to go, but never did...not sure if there have been many recently.
Happy birthday!
Happiest of returns, old bean! However, being an abstemious cove, I can't have a drink in your honour. [Couple of my favourite phrases gleaned from reading all the P.G. Wodehouse novels, so thus adopting Anglicised spelling.]
Damn...I was happy to see O'Brien's book come out, but now I think it was somewhat of a final statement. [The post quoted above referred to H O'B's recent book. Hod looks rather ill in the 80th birthday photo on his website.]
Very sad news. RIP.
When I bought my first O'Brien recording on Reservoir, I was pleasantly shocked to see it was the same guy I recalled from "Three Trumpets", "J R Monterose" and "Guitar Groove", after a long recording hiatus. He became one of my favorite pianists.
Damn. RIP.
Mose was a favorite because of his lyrics before I became a jazz enthusiast. I once saw him live at the now-defunct Bradley's in NYC (iirc).
Doesn't seem like that recent a development. I live in somewhat of a "snow belt" in upstate NY, and the gray Honda CR-V, in particular, has been ubiquitous, omnipresent,..., (whatever) for quite a few years.
Good! Looks like you might have gotten the last copy.
Here are a couple of good reviews of the old Cage/Feldman twofer:
lafolia.com year's best
another from same site, + review of Cage prepared piano (scroll down)
I bought the twofer of Cage's One^5 and Feldman's Triadic Memories on the Offseason Productions label when it was first released. It's outstanding and I highly recommend it! At the very top of all the Feldman and Cage recordings I own.
