Excellent, thanks for the report. I knew of the event, but Covid infections have been going batshit in Ulster County (where I'm a resident and Kingston is located), worse than last year at this time - see https://covid19.ulstercountyny.gov/dashboard/ Even though I'm vaccinated and got a booster 6 days ago, I've been chickening out of concerts and crowded venues.

Thanks for the info. Will check out Starcross Bridge. I really enjoyed the 3-CD Turtle reissue of Marching Song. Purchased Catania a few months later. Just recently ordered The Cortege, but it hasn't arrived yet.

I just bought the reissue [Frames by Keith Tippett's Ark]. Arrived at my US dealer Nov. 15. Lots of Ogun reissues these days!

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

Booster appointment Monday 11/22 @ County site (where I got the 2 initial Pfizer doses March/April). Just turned 64, last week it was unclear whether I could sign up, but I phoned the County last Thursday and got an OK. -
LF: Jimmy Cobb - JAZZ IN THE KEY OF BLUE

Damn. I jinxed myself. Recently ordered 3 CDs from importcds. They sent me the correct titles, but 2 CDs and 1 LP. Now I have to return/exchange the LP. Likely will be a nightmare and cost me a bundle in shipping. Back to the penalty box for them. -
According to this: https://mobile.twitter.com/armstronghouse/status/1428440670193295360 Charles Carpenter. I right-clicked on the image, selected "Search Google for image". and that was one of the first hits.

Me too. Dusty Groove is showing some other Oguns on their "Coming Soon" page (and I'm "watching"). Hope this gets added so I can order (on arrival)..

By coincidence, I got this very same set a couple of weeks ago. It was new material to me (I've only recently gotten interested in British "jazz-rock" of that vintage), but I love it and agree with your assessment. Only very minor quibble is that neither the booklet nor the box gives timings of the tracks. I opted for the Esoteric box over the big recent Live at the BBC release for reasons of personnel and cost. I'm sure the BBC set has outstanding performances, but the Esoteric is so good that I have no regrets. FWIW, I ordered the Barbara Thompson Live at the BBC box, but it won't arrive for a while (UK->USA shipping).

Years ago, I placed an order with importcds and they mistakenly sent me the wrong item. Dealing with "customer service" was a nightmare. After much hassle and long delay, the matter finally got resolved. As a result, I avoided them for quite a while. But in recent years I've purchased many cds from them (have developed a dislike of Amazon, and importcds has good prices), mostly direct or through eBay, no problems whatsoever. -
Apparently Mr. G. is also a functional illiterate [emphasis added]. the man who’s nickname is “The Sound''...WTF?

Likely too prosaic to rank on many "worst of" lists, but this one made a terrible impression on me: There are quite a few unattractive Chick Corea album covers, for whatever reason.

+1 in spades to the last 4 posts. -
Excellent point. I was going to say "...or being interviewed", but didn't have the add'l info. [Added] I'd think photographing a therapy session would raise issues related to doctor-patient confidentiality.

I know I've seen this telegram before, but can't recall where... Looking around, Ethan Iverson tweeted it back in 2016: https://twitter.com/ethan_iverson/status/808352283381661700 Not sure where else it may have appeared. I don't use Twitter, so that can't be where I saw it.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?

A recent thread on the big Nucleus Live at the BBC set got my interest, but I decided to go for this smaller box. -
Thanks for posting this. I only knew of the Wergo CDs (later recording date), must have been asleep when this was released.
-
Thanks for the info. Agreed that the earlier Nucleus recordings appeal more and the Barbara Thompson set looks more attractive (at roughly similar price). [Added] I found a box set of the 1970-75 Nucleus releases (9 LP on 6 CD) at a reasonable price and went for that...the material is new to me because I've only become interested in British jazz-rock of that vintage over the past couple of years (thanks to Jazz in Britain on bandcamp and Scott's sales on this site).

Something I'd really like to hear, but can't imagine paying $150 for 12 discs worth. Would immediately purchase a subset of 4 to 6 CDs.

I just recently discovered Satoko Fujii and have been impressed. She records prolifically (big band, solo, small group) and I've only heard a few, so can't give reliable recommendations. There's a lot to explore.

Thanks, didn't know of deepdiscountcd. FWIW, independent confirmation of popmarket: I almost always pay with Paypal, and noticed quite a while ago that importcds and popmarket have the same Paypal payee e-mail address.
