How would you pronounce this town?
Niko replied to AllenLowe's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
could be german... if it is than it's a bit difficult to describe... sounds are as in "lee-teets" but both "ee" are short like the "y" in syllable... (ie, i would not break the word in the middle, rather speak it fast so that it rhymes with a quick "Brad wins")... hope this helps... -
might stilll be available here: http://ubu-space.blogspot.com/2009/08/hank-mobley-copenhagen-1968.html

didn't see a mention of the two fine Sleet articles on Jazzwax... http://www.jazzwax.com/2009/11/don-sleet-all-members.html http://www.jazzwax.com/2009/11/david-sleet-on-don-sleet.html

he plays on the recent Dupree Bolton Uptown CD, just on two tunes but makes a fine impression; some info in the liner notes there (don't have them here), iirc, he died in the early seventies and besides the Riverside session recorded some Blues singles in the 50s... would also be interested to find out more... i played a lot last year the following recommendation from King Ubu: Colin Vallon Trio - Ailleurs (hatology)

don't know where else in the world these work, but i can stream the land album for free here on deezer and lastfm (both sites have most of the lonehill catalogue (and at least for deezer also gambit)

and he looks real good with the black hair! he also plays a great solo on one of my favorite pop songs (ben watt's waiting like mad); glad he's alive! and RIP to the other

my deezer discovery of the last week was Anais Records, a label that was apparently run in the eighties by Michel Petrucciani and artist Edouard Detmer... nice post bop albums, mostly by members of the Perucciani family... especially liked the Talib Kibwe, a quartet album featuring Bobby Few on piano and Loui's Blues by Louis Petrucciani, a quartet album with Horace Parlan on piano and (father) Tony Petrucciani on guitar... discography: (004 and 006 are not available) Louis Petrucciani - Loui's Blues. Anaïs Records 001 Talib Kibwe - Egyptian Oasis. Anaïs Records 002 Louis Petrucciani - The Librarian. Anaïs Records 003 Klaus Suonsaari/NHOP/Niels Lan Doky - Song Flower. Anaïs Records 004 Philippe Petrucciani - The First. Anaïs Records 005 Tony Petrucciani - Nuages. Anaïs Records 006 Louis Petrucciani - Mister Light. Anaïs Records 007

I know this is a long shot... but at the end of a lengthier story I ended up with a 360$ gift certificate for this Bed and Breakfast near Boston: http://www.bedandbagel.com/Rooms/RoomsRates.htm i have never been there so I don't really know but back then I chose the place because it looked reasonably central and with a decent price (rooms start at 80$). The certificate is valid until June 2011 - if anybody is interested in buying this (or some of it) for a reasonable price (just make an offer) i'd be very very grateful! also, ideas about other ways (besides travelling to Boston...) of solving this problem are very much appreciated! Thank you very much!

does this count?

just googled a bit behind this guy "Prince Ghana M'Bow" who appeared on some Barney Wilen and Lucky Thompson recordings... found these two bits link and link... is that the same person? does anybody know more about him? (so his brother would have been head of the Unesco and all)

Noal Cohen's discography... says January 14, 1959 (the High Note CD...)
-
Done. stupid questions - do we really want to have interests show up in every post? and: does the search function allow for searching for strings or ands?
-
dimly remember the album... wasn't this some sort of keyboard effect by gibbs?
-
-
cool, thank you, indeed that's it exactly (so they are more takes from the same sessions which apparently are not on the original LPs...)
-
for once it's not chewy who comes up with a Buddy Collette question... i am listening to two compilations of early 60s italian recordings by Collette right now, wonderful music, these two http://www.deezer.com/de/#music/buddy-collette/the-soft-touch-of-buddy-collette-275633 http://www.deezer.com/de/#music/bob-cooper-buddy-collette/milano-blues-287254 (don't know where in the world this can be played, emusic has them as well...) this site http://www.geocities.jp/mmlg888/BuddyCollette.html helped me to get together almost all the discographical info, yet i am still wondering about the following tracks... Softly as in a morning sunrise, That's all, The power of winds, Eh Ho, I wished on the moon, Miss Helen... anybody has an idea? thank you!

just curious... can you add attachments to posts in browsers other than IE?
-
i for one would like to know more about your session!
-
Any answers to this one? the magnificient goldberg posted this in "what music did you buy today" - you got an extra "http://" in there...
-
looks great in firefox... if you still want to see vertical posts and the like, try IE 7 [didn't actually manage to post with that one...] thank you Jim! edit to add: the option to add attachment to posts is only available in IE to me though... weird if i'm right ....

My CDs arrived safely, thank you!
-
i can proudly announce that this year for the first time since 2004 cigarettes have been the dominant force in my unnecessary expenses... i still bought more cds than normal people do but still, deezer and lastfm more or less satisfy my needs for new music with few exceptions... after all 90% of my listening is at work anyway where i can't have too many cds around, 20 or so must suffice...
