  1. I have the recording with Erica Lindsay, which is very good. May have to check the solo disc out at some point.
  2. Guess I better hold on to my 2002 Honda Accord for as long as I can.
  3. I imagine they get a lot of queries from many worthwhile artists. It does not excuse the lack of response, but I am not necessarily convinced that the lack of response in this instance is probative of any "weirdness"
  4. I caught both sets performed by the band at Firehouse 12 in New Haven the night before. I was somewhat distracted the first set by someone's continuous flatulent problems the first set, but thankfully they did not stay for the second set. I have heard halvorson in several settings with Anthony Braxton and Taylor Ho Bynum as well as others. She is always interesting to hear. On this night Finlayson and Irabagon were particularly impressive. I picked up the new disc while there as well as a few others since Firehouse 12 was having a bit of a sale on the discs on its label.

  6. This is near the top of my want list. I heard Sarin Friday night with Michael Bates' Acrobat.
  7. There are at least two radio broadcasts extant from 1973 with Stubblefield playing in a Mingus group with Joe Gardner, Don Pullen and Roy Brooks that have circulated among collectors.
  8. I received a shipping notice today regarding my second order placed on the last day of the sale.
  9. I listened to most of Good Citizen yesterday via Rhapsody. I very much enjoyed what I heard. Thanks for the recommendation! I have the solo piano CD, which I will have to give a listen to very soon.
  10. Thanks for the extra info. No need to embed anything for me. As it turns out I probably will not be able to get down to New Haven tonight.
  11. Are you Scott Clark? Who else is in the group? I can't access the wordpress site from work. Maybe I can sneak out to the New Haven performance.
  12. So, when's the main hinting event? Well this afternoon I decided to just go with full direct disclosure and to my surprise she did not tell me I am out of my mind. Now I just have to decide how much I want to take the drive.
  13. I have started to make preliminary hints to me wife to see if i can get down for the show friday.
  14. The Nichols solo disc is next up on my listening pile.
  15. I wish this was something I could catch as well. Not only is he a great musician, I have had several conversations with Gerald and thinks he is an extremely genuine person. Any doubts I had about Jones were eliminated when I heard his quartet Friday night at Firehouse 12 in New Haven. Fantastic.

  21. I have now adopted using a random integer generator program to help me decide what to listen to from my collection. Since I have a database of my collection on an excel spreadsheet, I simply run to program to generate a spefic number of integers that correspond with the location on the spreadsheet. So if I can't decide for myself what to listen to, I certainly can't offer any useful opinions. I also have boxes of CDRs from my misguided days of CDR trades that I have not listened to. A few months ago I started converting them to mp3 with the thought that maybe that would make it easier to work them into the listening schedule and also save space - but the truth is that I rarely listen to mp3s. I am not being helpful, am I? for what it is worth, I would say fill up your case with a random selection of all of it.
  22. I was a little disappointed after a couple of spins of this recording. I think of myself as a Kenny Garrett fan, but a couple of tracks on the new recording just did not do it for me. I plan to revisit it some time soon.
  23. Domestic or import label? Domestic this time...Motema Records Release date June 12. I believe it is a gig for the Hartford Jazz Society or something to that effect.
