  1. Ok so now this link is back http://www.concordmusicgroup.com/promos/summer/ and no longer linking to box sets. Although it now says "Unfortunately, this sale had to be discontinued on Friday, June 12. The titles are still listed below at their regular price." but when you add the CDs to your cart they show up as $5.98????? I can only assume this is part of Concord's brilliant marketing plan so the customer will say "OH MY GOD! they're still on sale I'm buying 50 discs!!!" Mhmm, something like that... Edit: Here's a few other $5.98 titles I found that I don't see on any of the blowout sale pages Amhed Abdul Malik - Jazz Sounds of Africa Bill Evans - Alone (Again) Bill Evans & Don Elliott - Tenderly: An Informal Session Count Basie, Joe Turner - Bosses Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson With The Cannonball Adderley Quintet - Cleanhead and Cannonball Ella Fitzgerald - Ella A Nice Ella Fitzgerald - Ella in London Freddie Hubbard & Oscar Peterson - Face to Face Gene Harris - The Gene Harris Trio Plus One Geoffrey Keezer - Sublime: Honoring The Music Of Hank Jones Hank Jones - Ain't Misbehavin' Joe Pass & J.J. Johnson - We'll Be Together Again Joe Pass Quartet - Nuages: Live At Yoshi's, Vol. 2 Louis Bellson Explosion Roy Eldridge, Oscar Peterson & Dizzy Gillespie - Jazz Maturity Steve Turre - One 4 J: Paying Homage to J.J. Johnson Thelonious Monk Quartet - Misterioso

  3. Anyone have a list of the $5.98 titles? Here's some I've found looking through... 10 to 4 at the 5 spot The Hawk Flies High Hawk Relaxes Quintet in San Francisco Miles and the modern jazz giants K2 Bags Groove RVG Blue Moods
  4. Thanks for the link! I dig this live feed stuff. I watched Tom Harrell play on a live stream from the Village Vanguard a while back. That was a WBGO/NPR music thing. Here's a link to the Village Vanguard series. I believe they're doing video streams for all of the shows.
  5. yes, http://video.google.com/ is good because it searches a bunch of different sites like Youtube, google video, myspace, dailymotion, metacafe...etc., etc. I think google video has longer time limits but I've never posted vids on the internet so I don't really know about which one is the best site for that.
  6. Sounds like a cool CD. This guy is also in the new Christian McBride Quintet. from Mack Avenue.com: "In 2009, the 36-year-old, Grammy Award-winning McBride will make new strides on a variety of artistic fronts. He will issue his debut album for Mack Avenue Records Kind of Brown, with his new acoustic quintet Inside Straight, with pianist Eric Reed, vibraphonist Warren Wolf, alto saxophonist Steve Wilson and drummer Carl Allen. The album-his seventh as a leader-was recorded at the historic Fantasy Studio in Berkeley, Calif. in September 2008 and will be released on June 16, 2009. McBride's new quintet was formed in June 2007 as a result of the bassist playing the Village Vanguard in New York for the first time in 10 years. While the group played material from McBride's earlier albums, the chemistry was right for future endeavors, including an appearance at the Monterey Jazz Festival in September 2008 shortly before the recording. "When we played at the Vanguard, everyone raved about the show," says McBride. "I had no intention of forming a future working band, but people kept telling me that the group had to be documented." ..."I was not interested in signing an old, classic recording contract," he said. "But Mack Avenue made it clear that it was not only excited about me joining its family of artists, but also wanted to give me the freedom to be creative and explore new models of distribution, which would be beneficial to both parties." Kind of Brown will not only be released on CD and digitally, but it will also be released on vinyl and high-resolution 24-bit 96KHz digital downloads, both firsts for Mack Avenue. The new quintet, which has only played at the Vanguard, Monterey and Brazil for one show, will begin touring in the U.S. in May." Listen to samples here.
  7. I like that album. The solo version of Night Train he does is great. I'm glad Christian signed with Mack Avenue and is working on some new projects now. Check out his new duets album he's working on for Mack Avenue here. He's doing one track and interview per month. Three of them are posted so far.
  8. Here's a nice video about Butch Warren. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24864395/
  9. Here's my favorite: http://michalevy.com/giant-steps
  10. There's a big thread about this topic over at the Sinatra Family Forum. Frank's daughter Nancy keeps hinting at some news to be released in mid February.
  11. I agree, but at least Terence Blanchard was humble and had some kind words to say about Moody after he ran down to accept his award. Also, I was amused to see Best New Age Album - Peace Time, Jack DeJohnette. The lady presenting the award must have thought he was some kind of French mustard though "Jack...Dijon-nay." I watched the "GRAMMY Awards Pre-Telecast" on grammy.com where you can see all this and a performance by Hilary Hahn.
  12. I used to work in a library and we had some of those discs go bad. I never knew you could get them replaced.

A few things might be out of order. So one Lee tune, they better play some Hank tunes! I bet they will as Charlap is a Hank fan.
  14. Happy Birthday Blue Note! The Talk of the Nation program on NPR did an hour program on Blue Note today. Also at that link you'll find five Blue Note tracks Bill Charlap picked.
  15. Oh I get it now. The thread I was referring to got merged into that one. oops.
  16. NPR interview with Hentoff Ghost of Miles posted this news a few days ago but it seems that post has disappeared? (or I can't find it)
  17. Release date is January, 13th 2009. Bill Charlap is the musical director. The CD has new arrangements of some classic pieces recorded on Blue Note done by members of the group. Looks like amazon has a exclusive 2-disc version that includes the classic versions of the tunes by their composers. I found some sound samples of this posted on NPR's website, click the hyperlinks below to listen... 20. speaking of GTA... http://www.downbeat.com/default.asp?sect=n...il&nid=1238 Roy Haynes Hits The Video Game World, Grand Theft Auto Style Daily News Headlines Posted 5/21/2008 The hot new video game right now is Grand Theft Auto IV. It has sold more than 6 million copies and made $500 million in sales in its first week. Perhaps jazz was part of the reason behind the success of the game? The new game has a special feature to enhance play: 16 in-game radio stations featuring a wide variety of musical choices--rock, electronic and classic jazz. And who better to talk up these classic tunes by the likes of John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Charlie Parker--than the living link between all of the greats--83-year-old jazz legend Roy Haynes? Haynes makes a guest appearance on Grand Theft Auto IV as the DJ of JNR 108.5 - "Jazz Nation Radio,” a station that plays classic jazz ‘sides' such as Chet Baker's "Let's Get Lost” and Haynes' own "Snap Crackle.” "I travel all over the world performing this music, connecting with the audiences,” Haynes said. "But this is an opportunity to connect with a different audience, in a different way. "Jazz has always been about personal expression, but it's also about communication. This is an excellent opportunity to communicate this music to millions of young people, so I have been really excited about it!” I say they just make a Roy Haynes video game in which he SLAYS all other drummers with his incredible fills... the one right before the out head on "52nd Street Theme" (The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1), would be a fatal blow! know what I'm talkin' 'bout? (half notes on the bass drum) THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
  21. Here's a Christian McBride post about the good and bad of the Carnegie Hall concert. I think I remember reading an interview in which Sonny said he hated technology. Here it is. I'd imagine his opinion hasn't changed... I've heard the complete audio for the NHOP, Dawson concert and it's great. I hope it's the one they're putting out. I'm also excited about the Hampton. Maybe not quite as excited as though.
  22. see here http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread....1077&page=2 for a partial list from king ubu
  23. Just took a gander at their website and it doesn't look like they got too far, does it. My guess is that putting out the same titles that have been out on CD two or three times already didn't work out too well sales-wise. Yeah, and no wonder...all they did was take a few reissues from what had already been reissued wonderfully by Avenue Jazz (I think they were part of rhino?) and put them out again. Avenue Jazz did a great job reissuing the Bethlehem catalog. I guess they went out of business though. There's some great music in the Bethlehem catalog, it's too bad it's not readily available anymore.
  24. "Live performance and interview on-air at 88.5 KPLU radio Friday, Sept. 14th around 12:15pm. Live interview on-air at 91.3 KBCS radio Saturday, Sept. 15th around 4:15pm." Pacific time.
