Saw two entertaining games Arsenal against Olympiakos, great amazing heroïc game by the former national team keeper but at the end the good guys won The second part of the doubleheader was Barcelona against Dynamo Kyev. If the host had an hard time finding the back of the net, for the rest they gave a beautiful futbol clinic. Will be busy tomorrow night (see my post in the gig watching thread), so won't get to watch Bayern and Juventus or the MU-Wolfsburg game -

Sorry; the American one. Ah. For years I avoided the American version (even though I'm a fan of Steve Carell) then a couple of years ago we were at the in-laws' for Thanksgiving or something and some channel was having an Office marathon. I watched five or six of them in a row and became a big fan of the show. A different "vibe" from the British original, to be sure, but I like it. The US one is a bit too sitcommish to my liking, but in a way they were smart to do their own thing instead of trying to replicate the original. We had a local version of the show with the boss character trying to imitate Ricky Gervais and it was awful.

And i completely agree, the Kinks never got the recognition nor the hype that the aforementionned groups had

Exactly. Why not just enjoy Robert Goulet? Why not just enjoy Jerry Vale? Why not just enjoy Al Martino? They are all just as great as the Beatles. All artists are equally great - none are any better than another. You're missing the point,he is not saying to enjoy all the artists without criticism, he's against the manichean vision that if you like the Kinks , you have to hate the Beatles, you have to be a Stone or a Beatle etc. You can do comparaisons of course but if it is in the objective of doing the equivalent of a Survivor tv show, where you dismiss and eliminate completely certain groups to end up with only one, you might be missing something in the long run

Do you listen to music over breakfast?

Chopin would be good, then again if it wouldn't be for my neighbors a bit of Led Zep would do the trick. -
The Beatles were the typical whole will be greater than each individual part.

Amusing thing, Quebec culture being an island by itself, while the french people would do covers of American music, we had local artists doing the same here. The yaya was popularized by a local singer here called Joel Denis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25Jk-bvPqtw Here's the Petula version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZFqSWV9geE Although my favourite cover is this one http://video.google.ca/videosearch?q=ya+ya...amp;oq=ya+ya+b# Finally here's the original for those too young or unaware Well, that's enough ya ya for the day.

In case you have missed it , there is quite a long thread about an obscure band that has a lot of people raving here, their name is something like the Beetles , think they are Africans you might like them. -
I thought the person depicted on the cover was Karel.

Just to make sure, are you talking about the UK version or the American one ? Was at the bar last night watching boxing PPV starring beltholder Montreal living by way from Haïti Jean Pascal against Italian Sylvio Branco. Branco sure did act like a Calcio player, he passed a lot of time on the ground, complaining he was fouled.

I guess most of my French music collection would fit there, a lot of Quebec stuff (Richard Desjardins, Marie-Jo Therio, Colocs etc) plus a huge amount of european artists classics (Brel, Brassens Ferré, Gaoinsbourg ) or contemporary (Bashung, Arthur H, Thomas Fersen, Brigitte Fontaine) Among my boxsets i own from those artists, the most outlandish one is probably this one A huge candy box (reference to the song Les Bonbons) in which a bunch of cds are put inside. Man it takes place. Also, i have a thing for french yé yé songs of the sixties and the early 70s
