  1. I would like that, but I don't think that would be allowed. Licensing problems. ← I don't think it would be a licensing "problem" so much as Mosaic would simply have to relicense the material again. Some rights-holders might be willing; some not. I think the issue is that Mosaic simply doesn't want to repeat themselves. There's also the issue of demand. It seems quite hard for Mosaic to sell more than 3000 copies of most sets these days.
  2. It's amazing, then, that you ever became a fan!
  3. I'd almost say the same about Jarrett! ← Care to elaborate?
  4. I blame the dinosaurs. Not enough of them died 65 million years ago...
  5. Yep, available now - but today's it's official release day isn't it? ← It was available a month ago as a download. I grabbed it immediately. ← Yeah, it was - but then somebody realized that it wasn't supposed to be released yet.
  6. Sounds good, Jim. Maybe we could hit the Jazz Bakery or something.
  7. Not a great pic, but I happen to have it handy...

    Verve LPRs

That's my problem with the LPR Series. There are many excellent albums here, but some of them shouldn't have been LPRs. The one that gets me is RRK's Live in Copenhagen, where they actually left off the extra concert material that's been released elsewhere just so that they could recreate the LP order exactly. That said, some of upcoming releases look to be great!
  9. Big props to Rick at RT. But though I'm not about to cancel my CDU order, I have to say that I wouldn't blame any retailer for canceling an order based on a price increase instituted by Sony. Hardly seems fair to them.
  10. Sounds cool, but awfully damn $$$. I can't imagine too much repeat listening...

    August 2 RVGs

Yeah, the stickers that Capitol/EMI use are particularly, um, sticky and hard to remove. Other labels use a different brand of sticker that peals off much easier.
  12. There's something funny about yelling out "Organissimo" and "Coming" at the same time.
  13. Chano Pozo for his work with Diz!
  14. Hey Chris, don't know how you'd feel about a site such as this, but this is a wonderful on-line repository of old radio broadcasts. Could use some jazz there though...
  15. Also new: Spiritual Unity - Marc Ribot, Henry Grimes...
  16. Yep, available now - but today's it's official release day isn't it?
  17. Anyone know what labels this material originally appeared on? Also, how much of this stuff is available elsewhere?
  18. I voted 26-50, but I forgot to count LPs, so let's change that to 51-75. You can never have too much Duke, of course, but I just can't focus that heavily on any one artist. Some of you guys have 2-300+? Wow!
  19. I had the new Rollins bookmarked "saved for later," so I can still click on it... but it now says something like "not available at this time." Thought it odd that it'd show up on Ebay before retail. I'm sure they're just holding it back.
  20. Great article, Tom - thanks for posting. I agree with you re: bootlegs. A fine line sometimes seperates the bootlegger/collector from the archivist (or is it collector/archivist?). As for an artist's wishes, who was it that said that artists are often not the best judge to make such calls? In any event, the passage of time always seems to validate the work of the bootleggers - Beneditti, anyone? - no matter how "unethical" their actions may seem in the here and now. ''The thunder of Mount Sinai," indeed. I'd like to hear that show.
  21. From the back of the CD: Johnny Come Lately 4:51 Slow Space 4:30 Ostinato 7:00 Donkey 4:34 Form 10:15 Angel Eyes 4:18 Irony 5:07 Lover 3:20 The times listed on AMG are slightly different
  22. Very little - if any at all. Better order quickly.
  23. Very pleased to find a thread about this reissue this morning. I had somehow missed the earlier thread about Mighty Quinn, so when I stumbled upon a promo/used copy of this disc on Saturday I was rather shocked. I vaguely recall that this had been rumored as a "lost Connoisseur" or something like that, so the title jumped out at me... but I had no clue as to who/what Mighty Quinn was or why this was released with no fanfare on this board (obviously, I just missed the fanfare). Anyway, as others have noted, this is a really terrific disc. "Ostinato" jumps out as a fast fav, but the whole thing is interesting. Love the many different tempos and sound textures, all coming from what's essentially a trumpet quartet. Looking forward to more MQ discs in the future...
