  1. Exactly right, Lon. Here's what juror Ray Hultman had to say: "I feel that Michael Jackson probably has molested boys. I cannot believe that, after some of the testimony that was offered, I can't believe that this man could sleep in the same bedroom for 365 straight days and not do something more than watch television and eat popcorn. That doesn't make sense to me. But that doesn't make him guilty of the charges that were presented in this case, and that's where we had to make our decision."
  2. Exactly! http://freekatie.net/
  3. Try re-burning the disc, Jon, that might help. Otherwise I'll make you another copy, but I've got some skips on a couple of tracks myself - at least on my boombox player at work.
  4. Not what you might expect "played loud," but this one works for me. Sounds like you're right inside the piano (or conversely that the piano's all around you)...
  5. Listening to this again, and that Walter Davis tune, "400 Years Ago Tomorrow," is really terrific. Why in god's name hasn't that become a jazz standard?
  6. So this Bird guy is pretty good then? I think I've heard about him...
  7. Geez - I better already have this on my shelf (like i think i do) or i'm gonna be mighty pissed!
  8. Obviously Wynn wasn't paid by the word.
  9. Wow, Bruce - do you really think Sith is worse than parts I & II?
  10. I don't think the criticism of the sound on the ST set has ever been so bad as to suggest that someone shouldn't buy it. The music is paramount of course. I too have never been so disappointed in the sound of a Mosaic set (or virtually any commercially released CD for that matter) that it's affected my enjoyment of the music. That said, there is a distinct and very obvious difference in the sound between several of the discs in the ST set. I think it's discs 1 & 2, but don't quote me on that. I won't even say that the sound on those sets is inferior or that you might not even prefer them - but there is a very perceptible difference and I'd urge anyone with the set to at least listen for themselves. The sound on those 2 discs (three LP sessions) is much brighter than on the others. I don't know if it's an issue (i won't even say "problem") with the original recording sessions or with the mastering, but there is a difference in the overall tone of the sound.
  11. Exactly. Frankly, I'm confused by this thread. All of the changes that AMG went through took place nearly a year ago. I wasn't fond of them then, and they're still annoying now, but it doesn't bother me much to use the site. If you're not a "member," then sign up and cookie yourself in. All access and no hassle re: passwords and stuff. Still one of the best (free) music resources on the net.

  14. I doubt there are too many Mosaic speculators - those that buy multiple copies to put away for a while. More likely, people just buy a set on faith - I know i do - and figure that if they don't like it they can always sell it for more after it's oop. And Mosaic doesn't - and shouldn't - care about how many copies of a product someone buys. If someone - a speculator even - wants to support Mosaic by buying multiple copies of an endangered set, then more power to him. It's not like these boxes haven't been sitting around for several years waiting to be purchased.
  15. The Rollins is indeed spoken for! If no one claims the Joe McPhee by the end of next week I'm gonna send it to Dan Gould just for kicks...
  16. Well, they only sell at "ridiculous" prices after they sell out, and since they license the music for only a limited time and market them as "limited editions" they have to sell out at some point. I think it's important to note that many (most?) of the sets seem to "time out" rather than "sell out," so we can't blame Mosaic as much as we should blame ourselves. Mosaic isn't in the biz to "rake it in" by overcharging for their sets. They have a manufacturing/distribution plan that works and they're (wisely) sticking with it.
  17. Here are a couple up for grabs... 1. Sonny Rollins "The Quartets Featuring Jim Hall" - earlier Bluebird (RCA) version (punch hole on case if that bothers you) Amazing stuff! GONE! 2. Joe McPhee-Jeb Bishop "The Brass City" Okkadisc - um, not my cuppa. At all. Look it up on AMG. I'm sure someone would dig it. Plus, it's free!
  18. Probably not, but you can hardly blame Fantasy for that one - the format's all but dead.
  19. hey, he read my mind and said i have evil in it! cool! ← Ah, big deal. We already knew that!

  21. Batman: The Animated Series The 2 WB Looney Toons collections Jonny Quest
  22. Well, DOES I? ← You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can call me Johnny, or you can call me Sonny, or you can call me RayJay, or you can call me RJ, or you can call me RJJ or you can call me RJJ Jr., but you doesn't have to call me Ray... Just don't call me late for dinner...
  23. The videos are a great addition. Killer stuff! And I really dig Jim's glowing shoes...

    The Doors Just Ripped It

I've got one of them, though I can't recall if it's the Detroit show or another one. But I agree, excellent live recording with one of the best "you are there" sounds I've ever heard. I love the almost 40-year old crowd banter, but I almost wish they trimmed it a little bit.
  25. How 'bout Complete RCA Akiyoshi-Tabakin Big Band?
