  1. Hoping to catch this tomorrow. I've been awaiting it eagerly, but with great dread.
  2. Great band, though often inconsistent. Ray Davies is one of the best r&r songwriters ever!
  3. Crime of the Century Even in the Quietest Moments Breakfast in American (which was once my favorite) All the rest I can do without
  4. Would love to hear WYWH in SACD surround - the DSOTM SACD is great. They probably won't use the quad masters, though, but instead remix it. Don't know why, but they haven't done that for any other quad titles. The Wall as a senior in high school? Kevin, we must be the same age. I remember getting it for X-mas (1979?) and playing it so often that i really got sick of it. I've never had as much appreciation for it since. Meddle, however, might be my favorite PF album...
  5. Yep, but as you noted above, we call those "private tapes," which makes it okay.
  6. Well, Jim's original post seeks to prohibit the solicitation of CDRs and boots, not necessarily to ban all discussion of them. That'd be pretty disingenuous given that "unofficial" broadcasts cuts have appeared on BFTs and there have been numerous discussions here about booted concert material and even unreleased studio material. The whole thing sounds very hypocritical to me - though I do agree with both Jim and Kevin's points about not doing any horse trading out in the open.
  7. Nirvana did a really cool version of "Seasons in the Sun."
  8. You guys talking about Rise? About the rapping/dancing clowns? (I'm serious about the clowns)
  9. No worries, Chris. Moving without a firm destination is mighty damn cool! Reminds me of those Friday nights back in college...
  10. Glad to hear that our British board members are okay. My thoughts are with you and all Londoners. This was horrible news to wake up to here. Sadly, I can't help but think: welcome to the 21st century; we'd all better get used to it.
  11. The "science fiction vs. literature" question gives me the same willies as I get from "jazz vs. music." I know where some of you guys are heading with your responses, but I can't agree with a lot of them - and personal tastes/opinions make any such list all too subjective anyhow. Kurt Vonnegut? Not a sci-fi writer per se, but yes he did write science fiction on occassion. No question about it. Bradbury gets the most props from the mainstream lit community (who try to downplay his role in the genre) but he's primarily a sci-fi writer. I actually think that PKD is a pretty lousy writer (most of the time) but he was a brilliant, often off-the-wall idea guy.
  12. Yeah, what's the final destination?
  13. Exactly! Targeting your, uh, target audience. Bob's Gaslight recordings are among my favorites - this is great, essential stuff. And so hard to believe he was only like 20 years old when he recorded them...
  14. Terrific film. (And Alex, surprisingly faithful to at least the spirit of the book; a very fine adaptation.) Spielberg's directorial chops are all over this one; he excells at this kind of stuff. The "illogic" and "inconsistencies" didn't bother me a bit, though the final scene was a bit too sappy for my tastes. The ending, of course, is weak - a deus ex machina if there ever was one - but one must blame H.G. for that. Overall, I found this a very realistic and quite terrifying depiction of what it could be actually like...
  15. Jack Black (Carl Denham) does get some laughs, but mostly plays it straight. Re: the CGI dinosaurs, much of the SFX is still being worked on. This is gonna be huge.
  16. Hey, I've been away, so hope I'm not too late. Count me in!
  17. Never had any chronic back problems, but around three years ago I pulled something while lifting one of my little girls out of her car seat. No B-3 organ her - she might've weighed all of 12 pounds at the time - but nevertheless I pulled something in my back and it hurt more than anything I've ever experienced in my life. I still remember lying on the sofa and laughing at how ridiculous the whole thing was - but laughing about it caused my body to shake and that only caused more pain that brought tears to my eyes. It was the weirdest thing. Anyhow, after a day or so (I expected it to just go away with some rest) I went to the doctor and she prescribed some pain and anti-inflamatory meds and told me to take it easy for a few days. And sure enough, in just a couple of days all was well. It ended up being a strained muscle rather than anything spinal, but damn that hurt like a sumbitch. Hopefully whatever ails you, Jim, is minor. But get they to a physician!
  18. Very good movie - much better than I expected. Easily the best Batmon movie of the five (I never liked the first Burton one all that much) and the first to really do Bruce and Batman justice. I had a gleeful smile on my face and the occassional tear in my eye while watching this. I'm with Alex about really caring when they get these things right - it's like a childhood dream come true. The film's a bit too long and slow to get started and the specific Scarecrow/Al Ghoul story that was told wouldn't have been my first choice, but I gotta say that Nolan executed it near-perfectly. Bale was a much better Bruce/Batman than I expected, and I can only hope the same creative team returns for the inevitable sequel. I can't wait! Now to see how Fox has screwed up the FF...
  19. Saw this on the news the other night. Horrible story. There's not much more to be said. A seriously broken human being. They shoot horses, don't they?
  20. So let me get this straight: Michael is telling us not to believe in the Lord?
  21. Yeah, and what PhillyQ said!
  22. While I don't disagree with some of your other points, it's a fundamental right of our legal system that the accused doesn't have to take the stand and incriminate himself.
  23. I heard that second episode was better. I saw the first one and my only comment was "Jesus wept." Haven't any of these old rockers ever heard Pete Townshend's immortal words about getting old?
