If by "shopping," you mean Amoeba, Rasputin's, or Tower, then what's the big deal...?
-
Hey Shane, with the moniker "Indestructible," what do you have to worry about anyway? Seriously, I was living in Van Nuys during the Northridge quake so I know exactly what you mean!

Johnny? Johnny? Shrdlu's lobbing one right over the plate...

Can the anonymous leg-kicking lady run for President? I'd vote for her...

To Deus, Couw, Claude, or any other forum members in or near Germany... I've been searching for several of those cheap 15-disc box sets that Zweitausendeins used to carry - but, alas, no longer sell. Specifically, Boogie Box vol. 2, and both volumes of Rhythm & Blues Goes Rock & Roll. Zweitausendeins used to sell them for as little as 10 or 12 euros each, but they're no longer available on the website. I see them pop up on Ebay Germany from time to time, but as I don't know German I'm at a loss and I'd prefer to find all the boxes at the same time to save on shipping costs. Have you seen these around lately, maybe in the local Zweitausendeins shops or any other places? I would love to get all of them (preferably cheaply) and would cheerfully pay for your time and shipping if you were to locate them for me. Please let me know if you see any copies around in your CD shopping travels... Many thanks!

33 1/3 LP's, what was the max length per side?
RDK replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yeah, but as the length increased, so too (often) did the sound quality suffer. In order to squeeze the extra-long groove in, one had to severely limit the bass frequencies since they take up more space on the record. Later on, computerized record cutting helped the sound quality problem somewhat, but in cases of very long LP sides you can really hear the benefits of CDs. -
I keep thinking that John Stevens *looks like* he wants to be voted off and go home. What started out as fun for him seems to bring him more misery each week. I don't think even *he* thinks he belongs there anymore.

I think we can say that about all of us! But most of us are not fascists...at least I hope not. Just to clarify: I was joking about her getting older (like all of us) and not her politics... Frankly, I'm wondering what the point is of everyone posting such unflattering pics of BB. Are we making fun of her because she's now "old and unattractive?" Are we pointing out the irony of how such a once beautiful woman has lost her looks to nature and unprotected tanning over the years? Would we be laughing at her if she was a socialist? (and no, I'm not particularly a fan; in fact I can't remewmber the last time I've seen one of her films)

stop. your're killing me. stop.

Seriously, though... how do we each (individually) draw the line between art and the artist? (Not saying that BB is necessarily all that "artistic," but the point remains.) Miles, after all, could be abusive. Is it okay for one to despise BB and her work because one disagrees with her politics? Sure, why not. But it's only a matter of degees in then disliking Miles and "Kind of Blue" because of how Miles treated, for example, women. Just wondering...

Fantasia and La Toya are so ahead of the rest of the pack it's not even funny. George is the only guy who really has a chance, at least based on talent.

I'm curious, CS500, why'd you chose the Pearson as your first Mosaic? -
I thought this *was* the twelve step program...

I'm really sorry Wes that I made you write so much! No offense taken, though. I do think that the regular Mosaic sets *seem* pricey at first glance - not the Selects, which I think are a great deal - especially if one is used to buying mid-priced RVGs or used CDs in general. There's also that whole 8 or 9 discs at a time thing. To me they become extremely cost-effective when they have more than one session or original album on a disc. As I mentioned, a 3-disc Mosaic might have the equivelant of 4 or 5 (or even 6) Tocj's on it. Regardless, we all seem to agree that Conn 500 needs to buy some more! -
You think that's bad? We're getting over $10,000 back - which sounds great, but really means that we *way* overpaid.

Damn, Lon, sounds just like my Driver's Ed guy. He went by - believe it or not - "Sailor."

Some of those tube amps were the bomb! George Russell's Scott is still considered to be very good...

RDK replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Yes, don't discount the entire label over just the Pearson Select. The Mosaics have always seemed on the pricey side to me, but they're generally worth it and hold their value very well. They also often contain material not available anywhere else - which makes price and quality comparisons irrelevent. I agree that many TOCJ's sound better, but at $20 or more for the imports (usually without any extra tracks) you can't really compare them that way either. (The Pearson Select costs $39, but if you were able to buy the individual LPs as TOCJ's they likely run you closer to a hundred bucks.) As noted, your disatisfaction with the track order has to do, in this case, with some of Pearson's later albums being compiled from several different sessions. In this case, Cuscuna left them in session order, but many of the Mosaic sets are compiled in original LP order with any bonus tracks following. -
But we love him anyway. Just like Johnny...
