  1. Very very sad. We all owe him so much. And I have to add that when I'm 83, I hope I'm hip enough to be hanging backstage at a rock concert.
  2. Very sad news. My condolences to all.
  3. Allow me to toss Happy Birthday wishes into the O-ring as well!
  4. My in-laws used to have one that i think they were trying to sell at one point. Lemme check if they still have it (and still want to sell it). I'm not sure of the make/model. Does Yamaha make one? If so, that name rings a bell (no pun intended), but I'm not sure.
  5. A bit of trivia, but that track was also used as the "theme" for Blue Note Radio back in the day. On the old BN board, I once asked what that tune was and nobody knew it at the time. A great track imo, and I agree with Dmitry: I'd love to hear the whole session.
  6. While I've no doubt of the controversy at the time, I still can't quite figure out just what it was due to. Maybe I'm just not listening to the right Kenton. Regardless, this subject fascinates me, and not just re: jazz, but in how critical opinions can change wildly over time when something "cutting edge" is first introduced only to then become accepted into the mainstream. And yeah, Wynton is undoubtedly the biggest flashpoint over the last 25 years or so. I would include Kenny G as well except for the fact that virtually all jazz critics are in agreement that he sucks as a jazz artist.
  7. not overrated, but often unnecessary. If your original disk is good, any ole ripper will do the same as EAC does, only MUCH more intuitive, often faster and with a lot less hassle. It's like using the Rolls Royce to deliver pizzas, it's good and it works, but you need to check what the driver thinks about the road and he slows down to a stand still whenever there is a bump. Usually it's easier to take the Vespa. Oddly enough, that's almost like the cover of Britney's upcoming album.
  8. I've burned several hundred discs over the years "on the fly" with no problems. With my latest computer/burner, i can copy a disc in 4-6 minutes.
  9. Am I the only one who finds EAC (not to be confused with AEC!) vastly overrated and often unnecessary? Every time i've tried it I've had nothing but problems; meanwhile, Roxio works fine every time, with no errors.
  10. Bump. Yeah, the search function doesn't seem to work with "and." If you put in more than one search term it comes up with all mentions of the words individually, which makes it almost impossible to refine a search properly. Any solution to this?
  11. Or Mingus or Monk. Still, I have no problem with anyone's "Ten Favorites" list. It's the "Ten Best" ones that I usually find fault with.
  12. I like my models skinny and my wife well-fed - that way I'm not disappointed whichever way I look.
  13. He does moan - it's never bothered me - but since the music is louder and denser it's pretty hard to notice.
  14. I don't pretend to know Jim well, but I think I know him enough to say that he'd never go for that. Besides, 50% would likely keep such guys as Johnny E and Chris A out of the political forum I think (i haven't checked actual numbers though). I honestly don't see what the problem is though. No one is forced to post about anything, the Politics Forum is optional, and I for one would get just as tired of reading a couple of Lefties arguing amongst themselves as I would a couple of Righties. It's only fun when the water and the dirt mix it up and make mud.
  15. Both are invaluable sources of music knowledge. Come back, guys! Very True! But unfortunately, in Chris' case at least, he seemed far more interested in posting about politics than about jazz. That's his right, of course, but I'm more interested in his "music knowledge." If he did leave simply because Dolan arrived, well that's just pathetic.
  16. Might be worth it. Depending on the obit he comes up with for me.
  17. Gotta give props to Corrine Bailey Rae though.
  18. You do NOT want to hear it, trust me. Ah crap, you made me look. That's it? Seriously? Never heard that after all. Til now.
  19. I've been really digging the Strata East stuff I recently found on the interweb - not to mention the very fine Toliver Select. That's a label I'd never actually heard before about six months ago. How's this compare to Glass Bead Games? Totally different players I realize... Any further news about Mosaic doing anymore Strata box sets? I'd buy that in a jiffy.
  20. I'm sure i've heard My Humps played somewhere, but I honestly wouldn't know it unless you pointed it out to me. I guess I'm turning into one of those guys...

    LCD vs Plasma

Except for the latest 1080p sets or Sammy's DLP LED, prices have already dropped a lot imo. The way technology goes these days, you can spend a lifetime waiting for better/cheaper devices. I bought a 56" Samsung DLP a few months back for $1500 shipped and it's already a couple of hundred bucks cheaper. But HDTV looks so fine on it i wish I stepped up and bought it months earlier.
  22. Having recently seen Kahil El-Zabar in a killer show at the Jazz Bakery, I downloaded most of his emusic albums.
