    Steve Lacy

Apparently one exists (edit: possibly the same recording discussed in this thread): Lacy also plays on Monk's Columbia Big Band album, though I don't think he takes any solos. Guy
  3. I think he is great on Black Beauty, as well as on other '69-'70 live Miles. Guy
  4. I'm probably a bad person for diggin THIS thread up...
  5. you radiate knowledge. Interestingly, though deuterium is not radioactive, drinking too much heavy water will kill you -- our bodies have trouble absorbing it. Guy
  6. He wasn't any more or less of a sell out than Herbie Hancock. Guy
  7. IMHO the live versions of this material (on Between Nothingness and Eternity) are MUCH better. I think Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy (which Dip mentioned above) is actually pretty good guitar-oriented fusion. I'm not a huge fan of the genre (aside from Mahavishnu) or this band after DiMeola joined, but this one is nice. Guy
  8. I'm kind of surprised you are taking the chewy comment seriously... edit: I largely agree with the Dip's comments except that I really like the Miles bands w/DeJohnette & Corea. Guy
  9. He was also on several Blue Mitchell and Herbie Mann records. Guy
  10. This is a funny thread. Guy
  11. Got the album from Chuck yesterday and am enjoying it so far. Will post more thoughts once I've had time to digest the music further. Is anyone else familiar with the track "Prelude" from Paul Motian's Dance, w/David Izenzon and Charles Brackeen? "Keep Right On Playing..." reminded me of that tune. Guy
  12. I recommend avoiding anything with deuterium or tritium. Guy
  13. I may have to check it out (though I will await Noj's comments). Thom Jurek's review of this album has a cool line:
  14. Not sure, but it is pretty good. Guy
  15. Chewy, There's a 2-albums-on-1-CD set on Fantasy -- Libra/Another Earth. Not earthshaking, but nice post-bop from the late 60s. The second album has Reggie Workman, Charles Tolliver, Stanley Cowell, Freddie Waits and (on one track) Pharoah Sanders. I guess it is somewhat underwhelming given the personnel. I assume you've heard his stuff w/Pharoah Sanders and McCoy Tyner? Guy
  16. Eva, There have been a bunch of Don Ellis threads: #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6
  17. Air's Air Time arrived today! Guy
  18. What I want to know is why no rabbi has come up with a special eruv for bacon double cheeseburgers. Guy
  19. The Van Der Graaf guy? Guy

    Chopin

Only Chopin I own, but it's good:
  21. The Oscar nominee gets should recheck his facts and figures -- (part of) the album was recorded on March 2, but it was released months later. Guy
  22. I'm curious about this one. Many said it didn't live up to its potential (the Herbie/Ron/Tony rhythm section, plus as I understand it they don't play on every cut). I've almost bought it several times, but have not yet succumbed. Very underwhelming. Another underwhelming one is Blues for Salvador. It's sometimes mentioned as his best of the post-1980 era, but is kinda average. Guy
