  1. I assume digitization means shifting it to cloud storage? i.e. nearly all of the content will be preserved? If so, then this story kinda sucks because any endeavor of this kind will generate some losses of rare material (as would physically moving the CDs to a new building, FWIW), but nearly everything will be preserved. There's nothing special about the CDs themselves. The 78s, scores & manuscripts situation seems much more potentially alarming. Guy
  2. Apparently not.
  3. Based on what I've heard (which is only a subset of what's listed here), the star scores above are very accurate. Can't go wrong with the boldfaced items.
  4. I'm curious - once an individual is deceased, what's the lifespan of an estate's ownership of his/her likeness?
  5. Has this guy stopped playing?
  6. weird that your list only includes singers.
  7. I think the comparison with Murray is apt. Each recorded very heavily for a while and I think to some extent exhausted the listener base. In retrospect I'm glad that the work was documented.
  8. I think it might be worth checking out some of the folk guitarists that influenced solo work by McLaughlin, Towner and others. People like Davy Graham, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn...
  9. @mjzee this is an radio broadcast circulating online on various sites. l wouldn't be surprised if the mosaic clip actually comes directly or indirectly from Voldemort. The date is correct.
  10. Thanks @Late. Great poem.
  11. She wasn't performing with Miles, but maybe they were some sort of opening/headlining tandem?
  12. I haven't done a thorough check, but I'd guess none of this is new - probably either already released and/or shared on the site which must not be named

    Chet Baker.

I haven't really heard post-1960 CB, but the 1950s stuff is excellent. One of the best 2nd tier trumpeters of the period.

    Kenton!

I like Kenton’s music but the Graettinger stuff is probably the only time it came close to living up to its own pretensions. Post-Graettinger, sometimes it’s hard not to laugh. Or groan.
  15. I've heard some of the tracks on spotify. Nothing offensive but a pale echo of Chick's classic fusion work.
  16. Good news - apparently Pi has also recorded or will soon record Double Up Plus (dedicated to Ahmad Jamal, Barry Harris, Eddie Palmieri, Muhal Richard Abrams, Cecil Taylor and Joseph Kubera). Not sure about release date.
  17. This arrived! Excellent paternity leave listening
  18. I like Mark Turner's playing.
  19. I suspect a lot of these companies' strength comes from overseas sales - growing prosperity in emerging markets means more money spent on beer.
  20. Physical media tends to deteriorate over time; whatever its other demerits, from the perspective of durability a subscription model like Spotify is probably best for listeners.
  21. "Ten parasitic diseases with the largest percentile decline"
  22. Update: I bought an advance copy and listened to it one time so far. Great stuff - anybody who's liked what Henry has produced since 2009 will enjoy this too.
  23. I actually think there's a level of preference for (believing) "a human is playing the music" that can't be replicated by these programs. But as you noted it sits kind of weirdly with the appetite for kids and teenagers who can replicate classic jazz playing.
  24. There's also the risk of non-swingy playing sneaking into even otherwise-authorized music. Maybe a patriotic comrade will do a Dean Benedetti on all the classic jazz recordings that young Mr Alexander is exposed to, in order to prevent any dangerous ideas from infiltrating I am ecstatic. I have discovered Google DeepMind, self taught 1 day old prodigy from Mountain View California. Been playing since it was 1 hour old and was accomplished at 18 hours. I'd like to thank Fate & Destiny as well as large paychecks for bringing its programmers together. I've heard of self taught but this is unbelievable. Has the jazz music world ever seen anything like this
