  2. Went to the Holyoke concert last night. one 90 minute set. Great show. the first 40 minutes or so followed in order the tunes on the cd. Everybody sight reading the material (other than Williams). Probably better later in the tour but last night was more than pretty good.

Mars Williams Presents An Ayler Xmas in December Grammy-nominated saxophonist, composer and bandleader Mars Williams presents An Ayler Xmas — The Music of Albert Ayler & Songs of Christmas on Saturday, December 2 at 8 PM at Atlas Studios, located at 11 Spring Street in Newburgh, NY. This concert will be a co-production of Elysium Furnace Works in collaboration with Jazz at Atlas. General admission will be $20 at the door. Ample onsite parking is available. For the last two of years, along with the annual Chicago performances, Williams has experimented by performing “An Ayler Xmas” in New Orleans, using local musicians. Building on their success this year, Williams expands his project by bringing it to select cities in the US and Europe featuring local improvisers from each host city.   16. There are several Venus 2 cd sets that package previously released cds and that do not have the "controversial" covers. For instance, Shepp's French Ballads (or Deja Vu) is combined with True Ballads. Kuhn's blue waltz is combined with the red waltz. The pricing is also better.
  17. The Tang Museum at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY will be presenting two concerts this week for FREE. 8 Pm on Thursday April 13, 2017 is Joe McPhee, Chris Corsano and Ephraim Asili. On Friday April 14, 2017 at 8 PM is Matana Roberts and Kamau Patton. Apparently these concerts are presented in connection with exhibit on Sun Ra that combined art with a mixtape. The exhibition runs from April 13-19th.

  19. The November 30, 2016 release of Chick Corea's The Sun and Randy Weston's African Cookbook has been canceled by Universal Music Japan. This is reflected on CD Japan's website. The Marion Brown release Le Temps Fou is NOT similarly canceled.
  20. Last Thursday night, the Swell concert that Relyles wrote about. Saturday night was the Mario Pavone Accordion project at Real Art Ways in Hartford. Sunday afternoon was Trio 3 at the same location.
