Michael Gregory Jackson w. Hemphill, Wadud, AkLaff
cliffpeterson replied to mjazzg's topic in New Releases
Back of the cardboard cover states: "Expanded edition! from new source material plus two unreleased tracks ... Recorded Live! at The Ladies' Fort, 2 Bond Street, NYC." I have an extra new, unsealed copy if someone is intereste-just pm me. -
You are both welcome. I recall really enjoying that chapter because George provided more information about that scene than I had read elsewhere. It may have been the only chapter that I understood
-
Its been a few years but as I recall there is a chapter in George Lewis' book on the AACM devoted to that time period in Paris. I remember thinking that was the best part of the book.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
cliffpeterson replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Saw the Chris Jonas Quartet in Troy NY last night. Great Show. Apparently he has videos to go along with the music that were not able to be shown in last night's location but will be shown in Saugerties. He is in Brooklyn in a couple days. -

February 27-March 1. Three nights of solo piano and the Northampton (MA) Center for the Arts. Matt Shipp, Greg Burk and Sylvie Courvoisier (Ned Rothenberg joined her for one tune on clarinet). Great stuff. -
The Miles Davis January 22, 1975 concert was last released as a 2 cd set by Hi Hat. You can find it on line. Forced exposure is the cheapest I think.

Slim still involved in the business? I have bought from Cadnor within the last couple years-something on amazon as I recall. No problems and I would do so again. Think they are just trying to get rid of whatever is still in inventory.

Chet Baker Sendai Japan March 18, 1986.
cliffpeterson replied to cliffpeterson's topic in New Releases
According to CDJapan information, the pianist and bassist on "Sendai" are different from those musicians used on "Live in Tokyo". "Sendai": Michel Graillier on piano and Ricardo Del Fra on bass. "Live in Tokyo": Harold Danko on piano and Hein Van de Geyn on bass. John Engel is listed on drum on both cds. -
Later this month, Solid Records in Japan is releasing Vol 1 of a Baker concert from this date. Vol. 2 is planned to be released in January 2025. CDJapan has both discs: https://www.cdjapan.co.jp/searchuni?q=Chet+baker+sendai Apparently, this is the first time this music has been released on cd.

I can see that -
Jimmy Lyons - Other Afternoons First CD Issue
cliffpeterson replied to colinmce's topic in Re-issues
There are others reissued that were previously issued on cd, e.g., an Arts Ensemble, 2 Shepps, Alan Silva. -

cliffpeterson replied to colinmce's topic in Re-issues
Supposedly the Japanese Actual reissues are subject to new 2024 digital remastering (whatever that means). Also, the cds are only available for a limited time. For instance, "Other Afternoons" is not available after February 28, 2025. -

On the way to me from CDJapan. There are others being issued for the first time, I think: Sonny Murray's "Homage to Africa," Claude DelCloo's and Arthur Jones' "Africansia" and Burton Greene's "Aquariana." -

Don Byas Mosaic set available for pre-order
cliffpeterson replied to jazzbo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I remember around Fathers's Day in years past, way before COVID, that Mosaic did offer then current sets that were not running low and/or not on last chance at lower prices. There is a discussion on Hoffman from 2016 that supports my memory. -
See TraneMonk's post with link to Importcds.com. Or, check Blue Note website daily since starting today Blue Note will be offering 30% off selected music that will change daily.

Looks like amazon.it realized its mistake. price is up around 70 euros now. Just received today my set ordered from amazon.it. Shipped from Germany. Agree that packaging is not great. The cds are in those bifold cardboard holders with the open slits facing each other on the inside fold. To remove a disc I have to squeeze the top and bottom of the sleeve to allow space for my fingers to reach in to slide the cd out.
