So far it's really not that different based on how I used the software before. On the positive side it seems to respond faster (except for Search which clogs trying to load the drop-down list) and I like how the Album view was redesigned, I like the drop down with the songs instead of double clicking the cover to open a different window. I also like the "Add To Up Next" feature for building playlists on the fly, that's cool. The major items that people are complaining about is Cover Flow being removed (which I never used in the first place) and the re-designed search that dropped the ability to search for anything other than Artist, Album, Song & Composer. I agree, that was a not a good move and hopefully they listen to feedback and return that functionality in the future. To be honest though I didn't use the search function very often. I prefer creating Smart Playlists, I probably have 50 of them that kind of mirror the musical tangents I generally go on. I'm not going to roll back to 10.7, it's not worth the effort.

Excellent concert film from Polish Prog Rock band Riverside. Fans of Porcupine Tree should check them out.

It thought it was excellent throughout. I was especially glad they dug out some of the mid-70s stuff like In My Time Of Dying, For Your Life, Trampled Under Foot and Nobody's Fault But Mine. That is my favorite period of Zeppelin.

I know some people can't keep from comparing it to the BBC version...but the new TV show from this season I'm enjoying the most is ELEMENTARY. I think Johnny Lee Miller is fantastic as Sherlock and they are nicely developing his friendship with Watson. Great fun.

I would not recommend using Terminal unless you are a serious power user.

The reason they are saying you need Time Machine (or any type of backup program) is because you need to restore the previous 10.7 version of your iTunes folder (which contains the library files, those were converted when you installed 11). If you installed 10.7 now it wouldn't be able to read the library files, that's why you need prior copies from your backup.

I think you are just doing this incorrectly. Don't select ALL the tracks, just select ONE. You can't expect to change the song title if you select more than one track. Then you will have the next/previous buttons available, and you can edit as many tracks as you wish without leaving the 'Get Info' screen. I don't believe there has been a modification, it has always worked this way. Thanks for that. I see that when I'm in the Artists tab and then click on an album, the screen "slides down" so I can see the tracks on that album, and then, if I highlight a track and call up its information, I then can see the "Next" button. However, my finding came through this way: do a search for an artist, then choose that artist in the search results. The artist's albums then show. If I highlight a track on an album and then call up its information (Command-I on the Mac), I do NOT see the "Next" button. So the program acts inconsistently. I tried what you said and I agree with you. It does seem inconsistent doesn't it. A workaround seems to be :-- after you have chosen the artist in the search results, select the track as before. Then switch to the Songs view. The same track will be highlighted. Now use Get Info and next/previous are available. It will also work if you switch to Album view. It seems to be a 'feature' of Artist view This must be a problem that only exists on the Windows version of the software, I am able to get the "Next" button regardless of which view I'm using on the Mac version.

I've never had any problems ripping to external drives, my iTunes media folder has never been located on an internal drive.

Steven Wilson's 3rd solo album will be released on Feb. 25th, here is the information from the press release: The new album by Steven Wilson and band “The Raven that Refused to Sing (and other stories)” will be released on Kscope on 25th February. The 6 tracks on the album are based on stories of the supernatural and the deluxe 4 disc edition comes in the form of a 128 page hardback book containing lyrics and ghost stories, illustrated by Hajo Mueller. Thanks for sharing that, very interesting article.

The tracks from the Royal Albert Hall at the end of disc 2 do sound better than the Chicago show, but of course the incredible acoustics of that venue probably play into that. People on the Hoffman board are generally nuts anyway, they all stand so close to the painting to see the brush strokes they completely miss the picture.

Have you forgotten how many worthwhile albums many jazz musicians recorded YEARLY back in the late 50's/early 60's? Apples and oranges, unless you are coming from the "jazz is ALWAYS superior to rock" camp.

Happy Turkey. Relaxing in the land of sun and smog today...

Really enjoying Octane Twisted (although unfortunately I don't have the DVD). Standouts: hearing the full 13-minute version of "Even Less" performed live, Stars Die and the slamming version of "Dislocated Day". The Incident also works really well live.

Free jazz that is more serene than jarring

Marion Brown was the first artist that came to mind. There are also quite a few beautiful pieces scattered throughout Pharoah Sanders Impulse recordings, "Let Me Go Into The House Of The Lord" from Deaf, Dumb, Blind is one of my favorite pieces of music. -
There is also a good bit of Gentle Giant, Nektar, Camel in their sound, along with hints of Zappa here and there. Great stuff. I'd recommend starting with either of the "Sleeping In Traffic" albums (2 volumes) or "Mammoth".

I recommend people check out Beardfish. Excellent "retro-prog" band from Sweden that captures the sound of the early 70s bands without forsaking more modern influences in arrangement/composition. They have released 7 excellent albums so far and continue to improve/expand their sound. Here's an instrumental from their latest album "The Void". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ej1DmJTbXK8

One of the only comedy shows I've truly loved in years, a shame that season 4 is sitting collecting dust on the shelves until February.

I'll definitely be interested to hear the entire session. Wilbur is my favorite bassist from the era.

LOOPER (Rian Johnson - 2012) LOVED this movie! The tone of this film really reminded me of a classic film noir kind of vibe, especially the sections on the farm which brought to mind movies like High Sierra. I thought the time travel storyline was handled well, performances were above average, tight direction. All around excellent. This film will probably make my "top 5 genre film" list this year alongside "Safety Not Guaranteed" and "The Cabin In The Woods" which already have guaranteed spots.

I definitely feel we should.
