I think not. IIRC it was local Montreal musicians backing Ted Curson.

I first saw Mingus in the early '60s in Montreal but he was on piano! He sat in with a Ted Curson group and took over- shouting directions, stamping his feet and generally dominating the proceedings. I was too new to live jazz to completely appreciate how lucky I was to be there.

I read somewhere (can't find it in the lioner notes) that at one point Rahsaan's fingering George Adams's sax while Adams blows. Can someone tell me exactly where? (Or did I hallucinate reading this.)

I saw this quintet in Toronto but the only time I saw Handy was with The Mingus Big Band in LA.

There is a small record store in Santa Barbara. They mainly sell used Lps but have some cds. I think they survive (so far) by repairing equipment. i've asked them to try to get a cd of Bird in LA for me. I don't think anyone else in town will be looking for it. I've also asked them to put me down for the Foo Fighters "DeeJees" cd which my wife wants. Probably more competition for that one.

Universal doesn't own the rights to all of the Mosaic releases. Many of them are from other than (then) EMI sources.

Yes. Once at the El Mocambo and once somewhere east of Yonge which for some reason I remember (probably incorrectly) as being below street level.

It is on the 2 cd Storyville Cotton Club set. BTW Volume 1 of the Masters of Jazz Ellington series has a piano roll of Jig Walk they incorrectly attribute to him.
