  1. According to HJ in the past products that had ‘Iran’ in the title caused the same issues. I’d agree that the sound on Duo Exchange is excellent as is the music . I’m pretty partial to Frank Lowe having been bowled over by a live performance with Billy Bang many years ago.
  2. Yes very interesting. I’m not clear who wrote the piece and what label is involved
  3. More sad news...
  4. My first two attempts to buy this were thwarted by PayPal as they found “ a risk associated with your payment”. Apparently the presence of Rashied Ali’s name was the issue !!! In that case they should decline all payments in regards to the Jazz Messengers.
  5. Likewise but I thought after I’d bought! On the up side the sound is excellent but then it ought to be if it’s copied from a CD.
  6. Damn I hate it when that happens. I avoid boots for all the obvious reasons. 😢
  7. Don Cherry/ Steve Lacy/ Dave Holland/ Masahiko Togashi————Live at Yubin Chokin, Kaikan Hall , Tokyo, May 14 1986—————( Victory) I’ve no idea about the provenance of this new record. Two tracks are previously released. Overall it has the vibe of Lacy guesting with Cherry’s Multikulti , have a similar vibe.
  8. It was outstanding. I was with some friends and it’s safe to say that we were all blown off our feet. The band were really tight with sparks flying. here’s a photo taken with my film camera
  9. I used to shipping the other way from USA to UK and 3-4 weeks isn’t uncommon. I’d probably give it another week
  10. Picked up a couple of Decoy discs including their latest at their gig in Edinburgh last Friday with Joe McPhee plus this one ...it’s excellent McPhee/ Edwards/ Kugel —- A night in Alchemia——( nottwo)
  11. At first it was Sarah V but as time has passed I found her operatic diva thing too much to take. I much prefer Ella’s freedom and phrasing.
  12. I’m looking forward to seeing Decoy with Joe McPhee tomorrow here in Edinburgh. It should be a real treat as I’ve not seen Joe live before.
  13. Whoever bought it should have no regrets as it’s a lovely set in fabulous sound.
  14. Having spun Reid’s new Old New quite a bit recently I decided to give this one with Nick Mazzarella an outing . Tomeka Reid/ Nick Marrazella —-Signaling——-(nessa) I’d forgotten how much this one impressed me . She’s a real talent.
  15. I had the Pacific LP with Tucker and let it go on account of being IMO pretty dull. Nothing terrible but too much like cocktail lounge music.
  16. I’m a bit surprised by this as I didn’t think any apology was necessary. After some of the crowdfunding debacles elsewhere Mosaic’s service can only be seen as exemplary
  17. Very sad news. He’d clearly been unwell for some time. I love all the Pythons but he was special
  18. I wonder if Jazz Messengers will carry this. It’s very very tempting
  19. My set just arrived. Spinning disc 1. Sound seems really excellent but I’ve not done any tedious AB comparisons. I’ve most of this scattered across RVG and McMaster CDs with their opposing methodology for ordering the material. It’s great to have it in consistent sound in a singular order .
  20. A very fine musician with a great legacy of recordings. RIP
  21. Clunky

    Jack Sheldon

RIP I have always liked his contributions to the music
  22. Taking a break from Tubby Hayes set with Discs 5 & 6 from JJ Johnson Columbia Small Group Sessions. Brilliant set in stunning sound.
  23. I’d avoided most of these because of a combination of lack of availability and reports of poor sound. It’s a pity that the unreleased material is only on the full CD set.
  24. I’ve been making my way slowly through the vinyl box. I’m hugely impressed by the music and it’s presentation. Plenty (75%) of it is new to me.
